Are the ticket inspectors on the ball on these trains, I might just get on and see what happens, we bought train tickets from hannover to wolfsburg which didn't get checked in either direction.

@bluegirl
relax. take the train, enjoy the scenic route, the lovely city of bern and the game.
it's well spent money

@Shab
bern is very close to the bernese alps (what a surprise).
i can highly recommend the skiing areas of gstaad, wengen and grindelwald.

and btw. there is of course a direct connection between geneva and bern. here's a link to the map of the swiss railway system

it's a pleasure to have the other part of liverpool over here soon.

Thanks for that. This year was Chamonix, so I think its only right that we have a look into Switzerland next year :-)

not recommended unless you have some gold coins on you.

there are ticket inspectors on every single intercity train and it will cost you a fortune if they catch you.

don't be afraid of running out of beer. a can in a store will cost around 1 pound. in most bars it will be between 4-5 pounds. avoid pubs and strip clubs and fancy restaurants.

people o_O

migros is the biggest retail chain in the country and they don't sell alcohol, but coop and denner will.

Right I've worked out the cheapest way is to get the Eurostar from London to Bern which takes 8 hours, stay two nights in a hotel, go back on the Friday comes out at £267 which is cheaper than flying and staying one night with the £75 train fare from Geneva.

SO EXPENSIVE :(

Bluegirl - Have you got the link to this please??? Thanks

Probably too convoluted, but you can get flights to Luton-Lyon for £120 return, then get the train from there to Bern (€70 each way) but the timings probably don't line up properly, plus add in hotel and you're talking big money.

I got my hotel room at the Metropole Hotel within minutes of the draw at £85 quid, I looked an hour later rooms were £145 quid, late last night the hotel is sold out ! Will never know what they sold those last few rooms for.
