Apologies.

We upgraded our servers memory to improve the site for next season - it really needed doing and we knew it would cause 20/30 mins downtime.

On reboot, we were getting hammered by 'traffic', we thought was bots re-indexing the site after some downtime. This emerged to actually be a pretty significant opportunistic DDoS attack.

Please excuse any intermittent downtime today as server admins patch/upgrade various elements of the server to get us as stable as possible.

If you missed GOT while it was down, and have adblock enabled (or it is forced enabled in work an you dont have a forum upgrade...) - you know what to do ;)

Why did the GOT go down then.........
Server back ups and computer back ups server engineers need on contract for companies also they seem unwilling to update systems as it cost money......
His firm have contracts, and general call outs been as far as Scotland also London works long hours uses our computer he built to do remote work for his firm too
Surprises me as I am crap on themlol

We have our own managed dedicated server. We then have a backup service which downloads all the site/data every day to another server to prevent data loss.

We also have a subscription to something called cloudflare (information here: https://www.cloudflare.com/ ).

Fake traffic was sent which crashed the site.

I did mention my sons job drives him mad sometimes;)

No he works long hours he helps me with the pond now and then my baby fish are growing well no sign of those pesky frogs as yet......
Hospital tomorrow again, oh and talking about it our main computer has crashed my son has it in bits as I use my iPad he's sorting it - overheating putting a new fan on it and cleaning it up from dust etc...
It's one he built himself a while ago.....
