Record Against the "Big Six"

It's funny that these records they want to use go back to 2013, when Everton finished 6th, and the season later in 2014 Everton finished 5th. Yet, back then NO ONE was talking about a "top 6".
No, it was a top 4 because that was what qualified for the champions league. Then Man Utd and the sh1te dropped out of the top 4 for a couple of seasons so they had to rename it top 6 to keep them in the headlines

The 'Top 6' started to get talked about as soon as Man City started to get in to it and Tottenham were making up the numbers. It's been at least 10 years that Sky have been calling it the Top 6/Big 6.

I'm not sure why Everton fans get so upset about it. We haven't been finishing in the top 6 on a regular basis for a long time so there is no chance we're ever going to be in the conversation of a top 6. I'd imagine Leicester fans will be just as upset because they've won the league and had other top 6 finishes in recent years but still don't get in the conversation. The target is to oust one the Top 6 and take their place on a regular basis but it'll take a minium 3 consecutive years of finishing in the top 6 before the media redefine who those Top 6 teams are.

Dunno why people are fuming, away it's been nothing short of shocking.

A duck was broken yesterday though, fancy us to get another win or two at any of United, City, Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool.

Yep, pretty much. 2014 when Man Utd dropped down to 7th ironically and Scudamore came out saying Man utd doing badly effects the Premier League brand. And then bang. "Top 6"

All it is, is a marketing ploy that took off.

Mate, 10 years ago, Man City finished in the top 6 for the first time in 20 years. Back then Everton were regularly challenging in the top 6, but it was known as the top 4. (Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool, Man Utd). I even remember Jagielka making a joke when the produced a fixture list of the top 4, but Everton were not included in it, despite us being 4th at the time. It was more to do with Man Utd dropping down the league.

I don't get upset at the term. I understand football fans and critics alike are like sheep and football moves fast also. Sayings change a long with it.

The away record was awful in those big games under Moyes. We did tend to win away at Man City the first few years after they had their major investment and before Spurs were in that bracket of established top 6 we had a run of 3 years winning in a row at WHL but that's normally a bogey ground for us. Any away game in London apart from West ham we tend to struggle

I don't have or see any issue with Spurs being labelled an established top 6 side because that's exactly what they are. They've been qualifying for Champions League & Europa League for a considerable amount of time whereas we'd be lucky to get into Europa once every 3 or 4 seasons.

If Leicester consistently finish in those positions then at some point they'll be labelled as established. They had their incredible league win then went a bit flat after that for a few years. They threw away top 4 last year it'll be much harder this year to get in this time.

It was important to end that horrendous 40 game statistic as early as possible this season. So well done to Carlo.

It's a very good 3 points but that's all it is - 3 points. We have to keep improving week by week until we get to a position where we believe we can get a result if we perform to our best regardless of who and where we play. That will take time, but breaking the sequence is obviously a good start.

If we can win more away games, and turn the 1 nil losses into 1-1 draws etc, then we can have a good season.

They’ll just rename it the “Big 7” and so on and so forth!

Let's be honest, we haven't won at 3 of those six teams since the 90s. Even when we beat City and spurs, it was before the emergence of the "top 6". None of our fans accept it, so don't blame the media bringing it up. As good as he was, moyes did hammer a small club mentality into us which saw us always set up for a draw.

It was a top 7 for years, we were in the top 7 for many seasons in a row with the odd team or two dropping out every season, i remember doing some digging and found something like only 1 or 2 seasons in about 8 where the "top 6" actually all finished in the top 6 anyway. It's getting ridiculous now with us, Leicester and wolves being up there or thereabouts for the next few seasons, they cant have a top 9, that's half the league ha
