Salary cap should have been introduced years ago. What FFP promised to be.

You can even have exemptions, i.e. 3-5 players with no cap to still entice the world's top players to the league. Think that's basically how things work in the NBA, for instance.

Thats what happens in Rugby Union here. 2 or 3 players not counted towards the cap. That said, 2 clubs have vanished in the last year or so.

The thing with a salary cap, looking at the premier league's previous actions, they'd probably say that each club's cap is set at the level of their current top earner. That wouldn't make too big of a difference. I could be wrong of course, but, I think they will be at great pains to make sure that any mooted salary cap does not affect their anointed clubs adversly.

It wouldn't just keep younger players more grounded, it would help stabilise clubs.

Things like FFP has become what it's become cos of the lax rules that were in place before.
Just as much blame for clubs breaking these rules or going into administration is at the doorstep of how football has been let get to such a place.

Look at how good the likes of Chelsea's academy is, yet these kids aren't being used to benefit Chelsea on the pitch, they are being used to bring in a guaranteed 100% profit when they are sold on.

Look at how much they have just spent out on young, un-proven 'in premiership' foreign players, handing out 7yr contracts.

What does that say to the academy kids.
Over the last few year a worrying trend I’ve noticed is the bigger clubs have been using other PL clubs almost like feeder clubs, hedging their bets to maintain their strength.

Take Southampton, they signed Livramento - but Chelsea have a buy back, I think they had one with Ake at Bourmouthto, City also have a buy back on Lavia at Southampton to, I think they may have had one on Porro before he moved to Spurs.

Now not only are they puppy farming youngsters to bring in revenue, they are inserting buy back clauses into the deals that if one goes on to be incredible they just buy them back.

It’s the equivalent of us signing Ron all this years ago and Chelsea, being able to resign him for say 40 mill.

Football is moving faster than regulation and if it’s not careful it will eat itself alive with a lack competition, caps and the like will pull the breaks a bit, but in all honesty clubs are clever then rule makers these days!

Unfortunate for the player but it all helps Everton. That said i can't see them getting anything against Man City even with two Harvey Barnes
Hopefully he loses his fight to play against Wolves and us a few weeks after.

If he's damaged hamstrings he'll take his time getting back unless they want to risk more damage.

So, for teams that do go down.....what are the stats on how soon they come back up? How many take the deep (ala Portsmouth) deep dive? Asking for a friend.....

Kinda like when the rich and/or famous get sent to prison, they get a "prison coach" to get them ready for the experience.....

Most come straight back up, certainly those that finished in 18th the season before.

I struggle to really emphasise to people just how crap the Championship is. Mitrovic wins the balon dor every time he plays there yet struggles for double figures in the prem. We aint going down but would walk it if we did.

Seems to take larger clubs longer. Leicester dropped into League 1, as did Leeds, Forest and more recently Derby. Smaller clubs like Bournemouth, Fulham etc that are / we're a traditional 4th tier club seem to bounce straight back up. I'd guess it's all a finance thing and the smaller clubs play a better game of staying afloat and also maintaining their same squad, so less turnover of players.
I suppose if you look at Aston Villa, who are pretty identical to us, they spent 3 seasons in the EFL I think.
