We all care more about the footy when we're kids.

In the grand scheme of things, when you see what President Xi is doing to the Uighurs or what Putin is doing in Ukraine, sport is clearly not as important.

But Everton is a big part of my identity and for the duration of my life (since 5 anyway) I've supported a top-flight football team. My Dad will be turning in his grave.

The one thing we still had going for us was our top flight status. For all the stature and prestige we've lost since 1987 we still had that.

Now we're about to lose that as well. This club was never the same after the late and great Howard Kendall left in summer 1987.

It’s very odd to dedicate so much energy to arguing the team you support are already relegated when they aren’t even in the zone.

We were in a worse position at points last season and stayed up. So anybody arguing we are “DEFO DOWN” has the memory of a housefly or is just deliberately being a misery.
