After Sunday I too started feeling we're down, however I now reckon in the cold light of day we're far from down.

We are just 1 game past 2/3rds of the season and are not even in the bottom 3.
We have a lot of games in hand over the teams above us and I feel all is far from lost.

My take is if we'd have taken a point against City we'd now be safe. We'd had a couple of good games under Frank and confidence was looking a bit better on the ball. To be robbed/cheated/scammed out of that penalty was corruption and soul destroying.

Frank looked to be in tears with anger and the players who were better than City on the day must have thought "WTF, we just can't do right for doing wrong here"

A point there against arguably the worlds best team would have done wonders for moral, the corrupted decision killed us.

A win on Thursday will be huge and I know for certain we can get points from the much feared games against the RS, Chelsea,Utd and West Ham.
We had a mini purple patch in August and now will get another soon. Evertons law of averages confirm this for me.

We're going to stay up and although not a fate tempter I'm certain I'll be correct.

COYB.
You're right in what you say, the problem is though, if you take our form since the beginning of October, not only are we in the bottom three, we are rock bottom. Any of the teams around us are capable of, and indeed do, take points from certain games. We, on the other hand, have forgotten how to do anything but lose. Take the results from Benitez' first few games back in August/September out of the equation and we are by far the worst of the teams, for taking points, in the bottom six.

Been a blue since 1990 and trying to come to terms with the likely possibility that we are going down.

One of things bothering me is the smug attitude I expect the media and other fans to take. I imagine the narrative will be something like 'they should have known their place, they tried to challenge for a top 4 spot, spent poorly and now they have gotten what they deserve'.

I know we are going to get ripped by the RS but they are our rivals and we'd do the same to them so I'll take that on the chin.

Still, I'll hold out some hope until we are mathematically relegated. It's not like Newcastle are suddenly Real Madrid, we could get at them and get 3 points and then things will look a little different.

To some outlets it's not a surprise and probably thought it should've happened sooner.

Barring any injuries or suspensions I really think Lampard needs to play the same 11 for the remainder of games, only slight tweaks if required. 4-3-3 for the last 12 games, play our best 11 and let the settle and hopefully gain some momentum.

No need to chop and change much.

In the 90's we survived with 'The Dogs Of War', all we have now is Dogs !!

Don’t forget… the “Dogs of War” were proper poodles for nearly a third of that season.

Never won one of our first twelve games….. most of those performances as insipid as any we have seen this season.

One in particular we lost 0-4 at home to the old Manchester City was truly horrendous.

And that on top of practicially the same squad landing us in the relegation zone going into the last day of the previous season.

We scraped out by the skin of our teeth.

There is still plenty of time for EFC to rescue this wretched season.

But you feel it must start on Thursday.

COYBB

Strangely I feel confident we will stay up, I just cannot see us staying THAT bad and we do have those games in hand...

Far more worried about the prospect of a points deduction next season - I can see a couple of our best players will leave before then.

What is this points deduction business?

A couple of fellows have mentioned it.

Is it a serious threat?

To put relegation into perspective, it is just about feasible that we could face Luton Town in next season's league cup or FA Cup, and WE would be the ones looking to be 'giantkillers' in the eyes of the media...That if formerly of the National League LUTON !!!
