Well expectations with regards to the Irish national team, are at their lowest since the pre Jack Charlton days! Whoever get's the job should make a better go of it than Stephen Kenny!

The bottom line is that whoever is manager is irrelevant really. It will require serious investment at grassroots level to turn this situation around.

I'd be happy with that really. There isn't much to work with in terms of raw material, but hopefully he can get the team somewhat competitive anyway.

Seems to be a growing number of lads from the north getting snapped up by PL teams. Need to ensure those lads play for ROI rather than NI.

Thats not how it works for alot of lads. Its who gives them the opportunities and treats them well throughout their development. The FAI overlooks many from the north, until they are already at a good standard. Missing opportunities.

Yup

They played reasonably well in all of the games though (the Egypt one aside of course!)

A pretty crummy World Cup when it came to the actual football, but everything else around it was top notch

I had a discussion with someone on Youtube about that. He was saying that it was a rubbish team which wasn't true.

It was a good team that was under instructions from the manager to play negative.

You could also say that we played some good teams in England, the Netherlands and Italy and only lost once.

Our best performance was arguably against Italy in that quarter final.

I think we're the country to go furthest in the world cup without actually winning a game as well!lol
