Should so much negative reputation trigger a suspension? (Prevent that user posting until at least a moderator re-approves?)

Suspended/temporarily banned same thing.

If I suspended/banner you now. You couldn't browse the forum at all.

The suggestion above is placing posts into a moderating queue.

"Thank you for posting. Your post will appear once it is approved by a moderator..."

Some bigger forums automatically place new members posts into a moderating queue.

I wish to offer my services for this job.

I know a few forums who offer no neg rep feature, but still retain a form of reputation system for the good folks with forum etiquette etc. Take away the negative reputation and leave in report post click on icon. Sorted.

New member.

5/6 established members negative rep something they post. It would imply that new member is a clear WUM, or posting something outrageously poor in taste.

That members posts then placed in a moderating queue?

Makes some sense to me...

I think the fact that a user is a clear WUM from the posts they make is way more of an indicator that there is a problem with their posts then if "established" members neg rep a post. Neg rep can be given for plenty of other reasons than because they think someone is a WUM.

Plus by putting their posts into a queue needed to be authorised my a mod before it becomes visible aren't you creating more work for the mods who you claim don't have enough time to moderate the forum fully as it is?

Better to have a redditt type upvoting system than to target then WUM, it will only benefit the forum with more quality too.

Not really, because they'd simply ban anyone in the queue who were clearly WUMs. They wouldn't be approving their posts all day every day. It'd simply be a mechanism to prevent those posts appearing on the forum, therefore putting off WUMs from posting.

If anything, it'd streamline the work for the mods by having a lot of potential WUM posts highlighted in one, easy to find place.

I actually think it's workable.

No. Daft idea. If someone's being a complete tit then they'll get reported and dealt with.

The boards got bigger with the death of BlueKipper. You just need a few more modz. Preferably people who don't plead to be mods.

A couple of months back, we had an invasion of WUMs from Twitter who spammed the place for an hour.

With the system Dan is advocating in place, their posts are limited after 5 minutes. The mods pick up the moderation queue, note that the perpetrators are clearly WUMs with no place on GOT, and ban easily, instead of spending an hour running around locking threads and banning individuals.

The user experience for regular members is not interrupted in a major way, and the Mod workload is lessened.

Win, win.

Depends how many people and posts actually go into this queue i guess, probably wouldn't be many if its only posts that get 5 neg reps.

Although its still a needless system and one that is based on "established" members neg repping a newer member. As with the case of a certain member at the moment, nemerous neg reps and a huge kitt and clearly a WUM and nothing more from their posts yet still here and posting despiete the fact that every single mod would have read their posts and surely been able to see what other people have.

If nothings done then when it should be this system isn't really needed, the potential to do something about a clear WUM already exists.

Nah I don't reckon any mere mortal on here should have that power. I see what youre doing as it would encourage responsible negging too like.

I also think the rep system should be a bit more communist. No matter how many posts or previous reputation everyone should be able to pos rep one and neg rep one thus encouraging lids to use that vote carefully.

But the current thing seems to work so there's no urgency.
