I know this isn't going to be a popular move to most on here, but I can't risk the security of the forum. On our latest upgrade, we couldn't proceed without addressing the below. We're advised;

Usually, we can just pickup another piece of software that plugs in but currently, there's no alternative available. The demand isn't there. Most forum owners don't see a need for a reputation system, given the is now plentiful opportunities to show your appreciation of a post via a 'Like', as well as the opportunity to comment on member profile pages - as well as of course, the private messaging facility.
That said, there are some forums in the same boat as us - wanting a reputation system, and one which improved on the last in offering greater functionality, as well as crucially, a secure script that doesn't compromise the forum. We've joined this mini crowd surfing effort, and will be funding the development of this new reputation system.
But for the foreseeable future, there is no reputation system on GrandOldTeam.

'Rep' is not a core component of the forum software. We used a third party modification and plugged it in. The developer sold it to a company in Vietnam who have subsequently been found guilty of shenanigans and been expelled from providing modifications for the forum software we use.
Given its not supported, its living on borrowed time as with every update performed on the forum software, the reputation system becomes more vulnerable and more unstable.

The two security issues are XSS vulnerabilities. XSS (Cross Site Scripting) issues allow scripts and malicious HTML to be injected into the page, potentially allowing data theft or unauthenticated access.
