Revolutionary Games

Don't have time for games any more however, I offer the Doom series.
No games affected my life more. Utterly addictive, link play was incredible. Trying to go to sleep after 6 hours play and still seeing those doors opening, deeply weird.

How was Age of Empires revolutionary???

I understand you like the game (and I do too) but it has offered nothing that other games before it didn't.

That's why I prefaced with "3D"...which UO was not, and even UO itself was a derivative of MUD's from back in the day if you want to get that technical. EQ was such a huge step forward compared to UO there's really no comparison, apart from the MMO aspect....IMHO.

Never said Everquest wasn't the original 3D MMO, I just said that it wouldn't have been there without UO. Which it wouldn't.

Agreed!

Have to also add that UO probably would've been the first if it would've went into production just a few years later. Having played both, I think it was somewhere around a 3 year gap between when UO arrived and then EQ which I believe is the gap where 3Dfx turned the PC side of gaming on its head (or, in reality...got lucky).

And EverQuest wouldn't have existed without UO
And UO wouldnt have exsisted with MUD games :) its all about evolution as you rightly said Final Fantasy 7 changed the way RPGs where seen by the gaming public becuase of its big budget cinematics and the like,i dont really class Zelda games as RPGs really more of an action game but thats as maybe.

I never got into WOW i did try it but was drawn into a vastly superior game (imo) called Everquest 2 but i can see its impact on the way games are played and its influence will be seen for many years to come.

Games mentioned here in this thread for the most part have changed gaming but now the question must be asked where next for new ideas? thats the big question for me at this moment in time theres little to no new inovation happening in gaming, yes the Wii has changed the way we use contollers but honestly are there any great games for that console? i think the honest answer is no to that one.

At the moment we're stuck in an endless cycle of 3rd person shooters, driving games, mindless shovelware that shouldnt be see the light of day at all(mostly endorsed by those hardcore gamers the Redknapps) there's very little new and exciting on the market at the moment, hell even my genre of choice has suffered the JRPG seems to be dying out mainly becuase of the cost of making them i suppose.

It's going to take 'Minority Report' type interaction coupled with 360° immersion to take it all to the next level...at least for me. The latter will come first, if I had to bet on it. Keep in mind I'm talking about something suitable for home use, not experimental nonsense in an R&D dpt. somewhere.

I see where you're going matey but that for me at least is a huge turn off..if i wanted to say,for arguments sake play a footy game and i have to loon around kicking thin air in my living room i would frankly say bollocks to it and go grab a ball and find a field.

These sorts of controllers and thats all they are are nothing without the games to support them project Natal looked all well and good but frankly when the king of spin himself Peter Molinxyu(sp?) was demoing it well given that mans track record of bullshit i've yet to be convinced about it.
