Richarlison at Spurs

Why are Spurs considered a 'big 6' club?

I know they're often up there in the top end of the league and compete in the Champions League, but they don't win anything and all they've won in decades is one league cup 15 years ago. That's nothing compared to Man Utd, Man City, Arsenal, Chelsea and even the RS with their one PL(*) title and European trophies in recent times.

Historically they're one of the top 10 clubs, but more as cup specialists than anything else. They can't hold a candle to Everton's league championship history for example.

Is it because they're London-based, have loads of mates and supporters in the media and are mega rich?
They're generally acknowledged as being the poor relation of the group but they've only finished outside of the top 6 in the PL once in the last 13 years - and that was 7th - so it's pretty easy to see why they're included in the 'top 6' that people talk about.

The last line is the right answer.

The "top 6" was coined as a way of including the rs and man utd for the couple of years they finished outside the top 4. Spurs were in the top 4 those seasons so they automatically got included in the top 6.

This has since been bastardised into "Big 6"

Everyone knew what is happening to Rich at Spurs is what we all guessed would happen before the season began, players always want to play champs league football which is fair enough, but why want to go to a team that are only in the comp a certain amount of games and for a boss that may not play him anywhere near as much as he thinks, personally i would stay where i always play and where i would be loved by the fans no matter what comp the team played in
