I'm not sure I believe that from what I've seen, but either way, I find it hard to believe we were in for Zaha to play him on the left.
According to transfermarkt which seems to track performances he played 15 games on the left last season, 15 up front and only 2 on the right.
I think he would’ve been brought in as 1 of a front 3, switching with richarlison throughout games.

Besides the fact that site isn't particularly reliable, I find it hard to believe he lined up twice on the right last season. Unless he and Townsend already do what you've described in your second sentence and swap constantly. He was on the right when he came on against us the other week wasn't he?
