Because the strikers and other wingers he’s had to pass to for the last 3 years have been predominantly awful.

Yep, that was my thought. I’d be interested to see his stats, shots on/off target compared to our other forwards over that period.

There are countless times that a good pass is on and a player in a better position but he either doesn't see it, or prefers a difficult shot. I like him but he drives me mad.
