2020/21 Richarlison

Should have been subbed to stop him getting a red. It was obvious he was not in the game. 3rd sub was early and wrong, Doucs should have stayed and Richy should have been protected...still in my head, oh well.

He sets the tone for us like Mane does for Liverpool.

Spot on that.

And it underlines, yet again, that Richarlison is head and shoulders above DCL. DCL cant play without him, but the same cant be said in reverse.

We need to be searching high and low for our next Richarlsion type, because we'll have very little threatening play when he finally makes the switch to a CL club.

Is this lad going to go away on international duty and risk tiredness, injury, and further unavailability for us after getting himself sent off stupidly last week? If so, that does not sit well with me at all. I'm a big fan of the international game - which is pretty much the only relatively "fair" form of the game these days - and I know Richarlison has big ambitions with his national side, but I don't really see why the club paying his salary needs to suffer because of his vacuous act of petulance last week. One hopes Carlo is having a quiet word in his ear about a mysterious knock when the national team come knocking...

If this sounds a little cynical, it is - but that's Richarlison's fault. If he'd not got himself suspended for three big games for us then he could waltz off to Brazil with any fair-minded person's blessing. But now? Nah, sorry. You want to further your international ambitions? Don't get yourself sent off stupidly for your club. This should be a good lesson for the lad. You can bet Alex Ferguson would have had the hair-dryer out for any of this nonsense.

It would have been interesting to know what you base this claim on? With 1 goal in 5 games, Richarlison has had a relatively slow start to the season + a red card that gives a suspension of 3 games, so his contribution after 8 games will be minimal.

Stats about key incidents dont tell all the story, do they?

He gets through a lot of work in that team and provides the platform for DCL to do his stuff.

Undoubtedly our most valuable player.

Thanks. I agree that stats do not tell everything, sometimes misleading, and that it must be interpreted in a context. I also agree that Richarlison works hard for the team, and is an important part of the team.

What I'm more skeptical about is that Rich is currently a much more valuable player than DCL, and that DCL can not play without him. DCL is the top scorer and PL, and ultimately it is the goal that wins football matches. M.a.o. it is a highly subjective opinion, and which needs something to support this assertion.

Here's the factual support: we never win when he doesn't play.
