Excellent article by Atherton in Today’s Times. Thorpe’s family considering a Foundation in his name to help with mental illness.
Apparently he tried in 2022 and was in intensive care for weeks. Never recovered really despite the love of a wife and two adult daughters plus countless friends and colleagues

….yep, seems like the serious illness a few years ago was the result of a failed suicide attempt.

Hits far too close to home this. So bloody sad. I hope severe depression and anxiety is continued to be treated as seriously as it has been of late, and I pray we find some answers to this terrible affliction soon.

I recall he came home from a test series in the 90's, the press ran the agenda he was homesick. Christ, how long did this lad suffer, we was told to ''pull ourselves together'' and ''man up'' back then. Guess what......that advice did not and does not work. Rest easy fella.

Every time I'm at a train station and see a train fly through at full speed I always think that's the way I'll go if my mental health gets to that point.

Luckily I'm not a frequent user of trains.

Without getting too deep that’s definitely how I’d go.
I think other methods are probably a cry for your help and you don’t really want to die.
This is when you’re probably certain you want to go as there’s no coming back .
