RIP Pele

For me his the greatest ever but it's all about opinions.
I was incredibly lucky to see the great man play live when in 1973 Santos played a friendly at Plymouth.
As others have said there can of course be a debate about who is the greatest but there can be no debate that Pele elevated the game , brought it to the world that no other player has

A week or so ago I sort out this from the 1970 World Cup. It's sublime. I can't begin to imagine many Pele and Brazil could have scored if they had put every chance away and the refereeing hadn't been so lenient.

Great to hear some proper commentary with a bit of excitement in it rather than the drivel that’s served up now with completely bland commentators and joke pundits on co commentary

There seems to be a generally-held top three of Pele, Maradona and Messi - and an argument can be made for any of them as the greatest of all time.

But what you can’t argue with is that Pele opened that hall of fame. He was the first GOAT and set the stage for those that followed.

A little bit of research unearthed some of the Everton Legends that Pele shared the pitch with in his 3 years playing for NY Cosmos:

Stephen Melledew, Cliff Marshall, David Irving, Tiger McClaughlin, Geoff Barnett. Sadly one of the true Blue greats, Jimmy Gabriel, didn't play when their sides met.

I agree. It's a pleasure listening again to the likes of Coleman or Wolstenholme who told you who had the ball and what was happening and then largely let the great game speak for itself.
Now they hype up the most mundane action with words like brilliant and phenomenal which eventually deadens the senses.

Never seen a single full pele match
I have no genuine knowledge of his ability other than the standard twenty or so clips we’ve all seen
I’ve seen more of the straq than Pele m, therefore I’m not really bothered at his passing other than he was apparently a decent guy

Sleep well Pele. You were my KIng as a kid. Thank you for the memories. Sorry Maradona but you weren't quite up with him, I am sure the two of you are having excellent conversations - God Bless
