Yeah, all that hacking into murdered teenagers' voicemails really helped them rise to the top.

F*cking hell Mick, have a word mate.

My mate done a lot of work for the news of the world, made about 100k from stories in total. He's given evidence at the old bailey because one of the phone hacking allegations is untrue as it was him who broke a certain story about Paul McCartney. He reckons he's gonna get Rebecca Brookes and co off with this. If there's one discrepancy the whole case falls apart.

He's only a local lad from Kirkby as well and he has all that power.

Mick, they knew what was happening. They are guilty as sin, I hope they get sent down.

There are no words.

Well i am sure Brazil is no haven when you are an escaped convict. I am sure he had to earn money at some point so work and considering the country isn't exactly what is considered 'first world' staus then Probably the only thing keeping him over there was the lack of bars on the window.

I am not condoning what he did, obviously he was a criminal and should have been left in prison, what i mean to say is Over the past 10 years or so he has been seen in a different light in the media as a anti hero rather than a criminal.

I'll probably be critised for this but the whole phone hacking scandle was genuis for NOTW. What better way to sell more papers and to be reknowned for ahead of the others than breaking stories that none of the others can do, and what people want to read about who buy the paper.

BUT saying that it was immoral and i, like everyone else in the country hope they rot in prison for what they did. It is like saying Germany was fantastic in the 30's for its people, but considering the 'other stuff' then it is right to this day none of the people involved in that have got away with it.

I reckon the only thing that blew them up was greed. Looking at the facts that have came out the past few years, i reckon everything was fine until some ex employee got a bit mad at them and threatened to go public unless they get paid what they wanted. Whoever in question said no, and next thing the whole structure comes crashing as the person had hard evidence.

I think the word 'Great' was used in the context of Big or Huge, as opposed to 'Good/fantastic.'

Like The 'Great' War or The 'Great' Exhibition.

Whatever though, to me he wasn't the loveable rogue that a lot want to make him out to be, in fact NEA. Glad that he did some of his time though before he died.

Exactly, it was a totally outrageous crime against the establishment at the time. .there is an argument that the judiciary sho themselves in the foot a bit with the overly severe sentences handed out..... Them tariff had neve before been heard of for robbery. After the sentences armed robbers began carrying guns instead of bats or bars..... Their reasoning was " if we're gonna get thirty years for a bat we may as well take a gun and give ourselves half a chance of getting away"..... Obviously not right but it pushed the stakes a lot higher.

The man made millions from this. The execution and the planning that was put into this robbery was professional and precise. It wasn't a chance Job, it was thoroughly planned out and worked perfectly.

But robbery is wrong so don't do it.

Apart from the bit where he was caught

He tried, apparently. He worked odd jobs in Australia before being identified. When he got to Brazil (which was a few years after the escape) he basically lived off his infamy as a sort of tourist attraction and after dinner speaker.

Old man dies: it's as sad as you want to make it, I suppose. He had a really weird life, but one where he was never truly accountable for his actions.
