I think this piece about him from when he played for Birmingham City should tell you all you need to know about the guy:

At the beginning of January 2005 he submitted a written request for a transfer, allegedly wishing to be nearer his ailing parents in Wrexham. On 19 January he completed a move to Blackburn Rovers for a fee of £3 million, despite the fact that Birmingham is closer to Wrexham than Blackburn.

As much as I initially thought he was a bell, he's sort of mellowed on me and I can tolerate him.
On a similar vein, that Micah Richards is going the other way in my opinion. He is beginning to grate on me with that forced laugh every twenty seconds or so.

I think he is a Steven Nasmith type player. Love him when he is at your team because he gives his all to win, but if he has never played for you the don’t care.

mad to think he was in the same young squad growing up as scholes and Neville etc

I really think you do Steven Naismith, hat trick hero, a dis-service there.
Savage was a kick you from behind, run around forever nuisance, who would run if anyone confronted him.
He made a good living out of it though to be fair to him.

Naismith is a footballer, lacking in pace yes, but knows where the net is.

Savage never really bothered me as a player. He was a bit of a nonentity in that regard, wandering from one obscure mid-table outfit to another and making zero impact everywhere he went.

He's a massive, massive whopper on the radio though. I can't stand his "punditry", which is nothing more than making outlandish comments and then talking over anyone who disagrees with him.
