Roberto Martinez discussion

Few minor issues with that..

We have had money to match those teams rise and keep ahead of them, Spurs are not better than when they had Bale and co, and City won the league whilst Moyes was there. If Martinez finishes 6th.. it will be the equivalent of Moyes finishing 6th. In fact because he's had actual money to spend, if anything it would be a little easier.

If our expectations under Martinez get much lower, we will be happy with not getting relegated.

Late reply but I didn't mean compared to Moyes' later seasons, I meant overall. I remember the days we competed with Bolton for best of the rest, and City were mid table and poor, whilst Spurs were average. I'm not saying we should have lower ambitions, just maybe a little more perspectve, that in 10 years the dynamic of the league has changed.

Bolton and co were quite decent though.. if I remember rightly, Okocha, Djorkaeff, Campo, Ibraham Ba, Nolan, Kevin Davies were around early Moyes time, and the quality of our squad was still pretty low.

I'm not comparing the pair's achievements I'm simply saying Moyes finishing an average of 6th during his tenure would be replicated by Martinez finishing an average of 7/8th in my eyes. Moyes had it easier to stay in the top 6 once there. Who threatened?

El Gaffer: I've noticed lately he's more balanced in post match comments - willing to say we could have done better)off good performance etc. I think it's a sign of a manager more secure in his position and not feeling the need to claim too much.

He's always had the confidence, but I feel he's attaining stature too now.

Needs to work on our defending, at one point Jenkinson picked the ball up in his own half and managed to run the whole length of the field before having a shot on goal, that's unacceptable defending and has happened too many times this season.

I think we've done relatively well in defence this season. Baines a long term absentee; Jagielka out in the past few weeks; Oviedo in and out of the team; Funes Mori bedding in; Stones with his injury and the baggage of the transfer window to deal with early on.

Very commendable the flexibility and determination to not let that stuff destroy cohesion.

He still has a lot of work to do for me but we are moving in the right direction.
I would love someone to sit him down and get us playing like in his 1st season.
He gets so overated and underated on here i have him somewhere in the middle

He's managing team selection very well at the moment.

With Cleverley coming back with Baines and Besic, it means we won't need to rely on honest pros like Naismith.

I imagine if Norwich come back in January with the same cheque he'll be off.

You're forgetting Coleman's injury.

We've had injuries all across the back four. Amazing these young/inexperienced lads have stepped right in and done a job.

Not a bad result today with 2 first teamers in the back-line out. West Ham have improved their attacking quality markedly in the last 2 years. When I saw us win 3-2 away they still had Ravel Morrison in the team...! Bit gutted that we didn't get the 3 but onwards and upwards.
