Remember the day we were losing to newly promoted QPR on the first day of the season and Mr. Moyes took the lone striker, Beckford I think, off and fetched a midfield player on....
I remember watching Steve Watson play as center-forward. Those were dire days.
And Martinez has been very good against the other manager that is rated highly for his tactics -Mourinho.After the way he masterminded the FAC QF victory at Goodison, I was sure that Martinez would prove to be a good manager for us and play a better brand of football too, but he has exceeded all expectation. That in itself sounds silly, because we shouldn't have standards or expectations that are any less than the likes of Man U or Chelsea.
Saturday was sublime, one of the best days I can remember as an Evertonian. It was a changing of the guard - we outthought and outfought Wenger, a manager who I believe has been of the greats of the modern era. If Martinez is good enough do that, then anything is possible and we should be very excited indeed that he is our manager.
Put them on and leave FFS
Vitor would have sown the game up by half-time
well done martinez.
record points total in PL in 1st season, 4th with 5 games left, better GD than arsenal and Man Utd and one of the best defensive records in the league with joint fewest losses.
obviously too early to label him as a success, but i've said for a good 2 years moyes was never capable of getting us to the next level, regardless of the great job he did. I believed it possibly was impossible to do that under this board and it could be argued he's taken us up a level already. if he gets us into the champions league groups he's already taken us on a level.
one game at a time, 7 wins in a row, grinding out results and smashing arsenal, is right martinez lad
Seriously, lads... 66 points.
***BEST EVER RETURN FROM A PL CAMPAIGN***
But I think that's just the beginning for this new era. We are just heading into the business end of the season, and I think that Goodison expects that there'll be a far more prized achievement at the end than just eclipsing that old record.
In all seriousness, this is a fantastic first season. 66 pts from 33 games and we're soon about to crack the 70 point barrier. I think success is silverware, yes. But this is a staggering achievement, nonetheless.
