Roberto Martinez discussion

Because we need to start beating decent teams in the league to get us moving up the table.

We won today, but we all know what Newcastle are... They're about the only team in the league who could contrive to draw at home with Villa.

Beating Stoke lays down a real marker that we can build on.
Hold on, they were on a decent roll: Liverpool, Spurs wins, then a soft point at home to Villa. That was not an easy time to play them away.

For all of our dominance in games, we don't create enough "simple" chances in games. We are capable of the spectacular (see the Cleverley goal), but we don't create the simple chances that would keep us from dropping points (Newcastle had two very easy chances that they should have buried). Martinez needs to find a way to get Lukaku and company into easier situations; we wouldn't have dropped nearly as many points if we weren't relying on Gerry to play a sublime ball for almost every goal. Our defense is young and stupid and will take time to gel unfortunately.

Name that better manager who will be happy with the resources we have and gladly come to Everton?

I think people forget that Lukaku aside he's had very little to spend since he's been here

Besic,Cleverly,Kone,Del,Mori,Mcarthy,Lennon all cost around 35m which is mental when you consider some fans think we should be challenging for top 4

No one could get football of this calibre with these resources mate, and these people probably know it deep down too.

Totally agree. Our football is excellent and far removed from how we used to play and still time for tweaks and improvement. There is not one Newcastle fan that can say we did not deserve that tonight.....there's probably a few Everton fans though. I am far happier with the performances than I expected and I concede we are dodgy at the back but I see light at the end of the tunnel. We are moving in the right direction.

A prophet has no honour in his own land.

We both know that in comparison with the rest of the league they're lacking.

There's a platform for us to build upon now. Two home games against teams we're competing with. If we do well in them it shuts people like me up, and we can all get back to harbouring ambitions of Europe.
