United fans must know now they're board should have hired Martinez.

They must be gutted they got that ball bag instead.

We should send all those damn yanks.. John Henry (who missed out on Roberto) and The Glazers.. a copy of Jim Bowen's Bullseye..

"let's have a look at what you could have won"...

John: You chose the window marked "Brendan" you got 3 envelopes and da philosophee - please hand over £50M to continue in the game for the next 12 months.

Malcolm: You chose the window marked "David" - you won a wooly cardigan and a pair of slippers. You get to stay in the Champions League for a while but next season you get two trips to Outer Kazahkstan on a Thursday night.

Bill: You chose the window marked "Roberto" - you've won a sexy game everyone likes to play and a ticket to the next stage of the Champions League.

I'm actually concerned we could lose this feller early in his career with us to a massive club on the continent.

Whelan was actually right - he'll end up managing one of the biggest teams in Europe before too long.

I hope i'm right in thinking he'll take more joy from creating something and realising something on his own terms with us. Whether Bill has given him a decent contract with security and will back him( as may have been promised) is another story.

Yeah, but at the same time, say a club in Spain or Italy came knocking? He'd feel a pull no doubt. maybe his wife being British will anchor him here a while longer?

Don't think Italy would hold much draw for him... Spain might do, but he's been in England for a long time now - I'd imagine this feels as much like home as Spain does.

Yes, and he's started a family here now. Hope we get a few years out of this feller because with a few more quid to spend we can do something...like realistically barge into those CL places or grab a cup.

Don't mind saying that I was far from convinced about Martinez when we were in for him. Always liked him as a person, but thought he was a bit of a "media myth" because of how good he is with reporters, and quite frankly didn't think he was good enough for us.

Could not be more delighted to apparently be completely and utterly wrong.

You need to realise Dave he came to Wigan in 1995 aged 22, the Three Amigos. Seba and the other one didn't last more than a few years but he has never left. He totally immersed himself in this country and our football, especially the North West, wherein he still resides. Don't underestimate the links he has built with this country, including his wife.

He may move home for Barcelona. May. But he loves the control that Everton afford him, he loves being able to build something. He was ectastic when Wigan - using money he raised from player sales - could afford to buy the land on which their training ground was built and use it to develop proper youth facilities (Wigan didn't even have a real academy before then). He always sees the bigger picture and the wider meaning - and Everton mean something. He knows that; you onl need to look out across this city to see how deeply ingrained amongst so many families is such big a club as ours.

We are special. And he knows that. I wouldn't worry about him any time yet.
But I know the feeling. I'm just doing my damnedest to fight it.

He's long term imo, and won't want to start from scratch realising his project if he has the resources. And by resources I don't mean money, although he needs some,I think he can see how inefficient we are with it here.
