So Pickford has so far saved 8 of 13 shots on target which on the surface is perfectly fine. But when you dig deeper....

Well, that's consistent with his save percentage from last season.

Only problem

Save percentage last season in EPL

Save Percentage (2019/20)

81% --- Emiliano Martinez
78% --- Hugo Loris
77.6% - Bernd Leno
75.2% - Dean Henderson
73.8% - Kasper Schmeichel
73.6% - David de Gea
72.3% - Ederson
72.2% - Alisson
71.4% - Vicente Guaita
71.1% - Nick Pope
70.9% - Paulo Gazzaniga
70.5% - Martin Dúbravka
69.1% - Alex McCarthy
68.6% - Roberto
68.4% - Lukasz Fabianski
68.3% - Mat Ryan
67.8% - Aaron Ramsdale
67.7% - Tom Heaton
67.5% - Rui Patricio
66.3% - Ben Foster
65.6% - Tim Krul
64.3% - Adrian
64.% -- Pepe Reina
63.4% - Jordon Pickford

So not only when you dig deeper, his stats are "padded" so to speak, he's made the most mistakes leading to goals scored since he signed for Everton out of any goalkeeper in the Premier League AND he has lost his ability to kick the ball.

How much did Villa pay for Martinez again?

Yeah he's bad. Save % on its own isn't always a good stat because chance quality matters, which is why I was trying to go through and show that his % is actually probably even lower than you'd like it to be given where people are shooting from. I mean we've only really given up 4 big chances in 4 games and 1 of them is 100% is fault and another might be his fault too.

All I'm saying is he really stinks and maybe Olsen does too but even average is a massive help if he can achieve that.

Hey, funny thing: Remember we were all gushing about our only Everton player in the England lineup, Jordan of course, playing the game of his life against sweden at the 2018 world cup? The goalie on the other end of the pitch was Robin and he had a great tournament as well.
He had a tough season at Roma, but he bounced back and should be solid enough. Pickford had a tough season and has responded by throwing the ball in our net three times already.

Is it the case we want someone/anyone in until January at which point we activate the mooted release clause for the AC Milan keeper? Hence the difficulty in getting a stopgap over the line where they know they are just that

What is the release clause fee meant to be?
