Is that the bullens/gwladys corner? We played a charity shield game at home?
Yes.... it was the obvious choice between 2 clubs from the same city. We hosted a world cup semi-final in the same year.... again, the obvious choice as the finest stadium in the country.

He's a bit before my time but the general consensus is that he was like a modern forward . Someone who run about a lot using physicality in contrast to those other England forwards like Greaves who used his speed and good touch to make his impact .
Your thoughts ?
He was a strong prolific Jonnny on the spot goal scorer -with a quiet persona .... A good all round forward goalscorer - the hatred from blues fans was aimed at Ian St John who was a work horse forward for them - we had the GV & Roy Vernon - top class - Hunt was respected as Becket them nothing - a local lad who came good - a very good striker ....

Not quite sure how this forum reacts to Liverpool Fc in this instance but without doubt Hunt was one of the greatest strikers this city has ever seen regardles of your affiliations. R I P
There’s no telling how individuals react in certain cases but with Roger Hunt I would pay tribute to him as a very good football and a gentleman who played football in the right spirit, fair and square, a great goalscorer, World Cup winner, gracious in victory and defeat and so sad to hear of his passing, he will be remembered by many neutral football fans not just Liverpool supporters, R. I. P. Roger.

I can remember my older brother coming in & stating his mate an avid red had been to a game with his Dad to watch the other lot - he was ranting & raving about a new young lad who played for them - a certain Roger Hunt -
My older Brother an avid blue stated to me - we will see about that, he can't be that good - he was wrong ......

The fact that he came up through the Liverpool youth system & became a top international was a very rare thing in those days - He was never a big head either he had strong competition to play for England in the days of if you were from a Northern club you were overlooked in those days to play for England .....

I remember he was treated well by the Goodison Crowd .... Unlike Ian Saint John who like Westy always received a present before a Derby game Westy a handbag as that lot nicknamed him Mae West - St John was nicknamed a little monkey, by the blues fans in retaliation was given a bunch of bananas before the Derby game - both players took it in good fun - it would be outlawed today......

Mentioned it on the old pictures thread - a local lad who made the grade easily 1966 world cup winner......

Even as a young blue fan - I went to his testermonial game at a packed Anfield road end with many blues fans to show respect to a local player who did well.....

A true Gentleman with a quiet attitude also chosen to be on the football pools panel on his retirement from playing .......

Wasn't the testimonial against Celtic. Mayhem in town afterwards IIRC
