Romelu Lukaku

Where was the pressure in these games? We were the undergogs against City and Chelsea, we were expected to get beat. The semi-final at wembley with the preasure on, he, along with the rest of the team went missing in the first half of the biggest game of some of their careers. Saturday, with a real chance of pushing for CL qualification, he goes missing again.

The rest of the team are not void of criticism but he's the only one shouting his mouth off at how he's in the same bracket as some of the worlds best. The worlds best produce when the pressure is on, on the biggest stages and in the biggest games.

Actually, he isn't.

He said he wants to be in that bracket and that he knows he still needs to improve to get there.

He wants to be in the CL and he wants Everton to show the same ambition and commit to it...

Lukaku single-handedly dragged us through that FA Cup quarter-final last season.

He is a big game player.

I've just posted a tweet that shows the stats back that up.

Give him the service and support and he comes up with the goods.

This is my point. No top striker get support and gets service every single game, they all struggle with both at some point, yet all are capable (and often do) of coming up with the goods on their own. Or they at least influence the game in some way - He doesnt.

Seriously mate, how can you say Gerrard wasnt a big game player? Olympiakos, Istanbul, the goal against West Ham in the FA Cup, he rescued that team so many times - a slip, as hilarious as it was isnt really bottling it - its just a slip.

Some players thrive under presssure but he, along with a few others at the club seem to wilt under it. The difference with him though is that he claims to be up there with the best when he clearly isnt- yet.

I didn't say Gerrard wasn't a big game player, I was laughing at your ability to pick one moment which you think backs up your case (Lukaku's penalty miss) and equating it with Gerrard's slip.

Your logic is totally and utterly flawed. By the logic that you yourself are defining, we're never under pressure in these games because we're always the underdog. No matter what he does you won't see it as evidence of him being a big game player because you'll always think the pressure was off when he produced.

There have been stats provided which prove what you're saying to be false, but you won't accept it because you've got a titty lip on about him not signing a contract.

What has this got to do with his new contract? If he signs it great as he will only improve and we keep a guaranteed PL scorer, if he doesnt then we move on and reinvest - life goes on. Im not one to think him leaving is the death of Everton FC.

I like Rom, he's a great goalscorer and his record stands against anyone, however I have issues with certain parts of his game and his inability to back up his claims of being one of the best. Yes he has the potential and he's still young but he needs to improve hos all round game and learn to have an effect on games even when he isnt scoring.

But the stats show that - this season at least - that isn't the case...

Romelu Lukaku has played down talk of a summer move away from Everton, claiming he wants to "make history" at Goodison Park.

The Belgian has scored 28 times in 35 appearances in all competitions this season and has attracted interest from teams around Europe.

Chelsea are reportedly interested in the man they sold for £28million in 2014 while Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain are long-term admirers.

But Lukaku, who has previously hinted he would consider leaving at the end of the season, has unfinished business at Everton.

"I want to create history at the club," said Lukaku. "I want to push for a top four spot and I think we have to aim for this. Personally, I just want to improve and become a better player than I am today."

If Lukaku continues his current rate of progression, he could well be making history at Everton soon. His goal tally has increased every season since moving to the North West and the 23-year-old believes his all-round game has improved dramatically.

Lukaku, speaking to EASPORTS.com , said: "I think I’ve proven that I’ve improved every part of my game. I have always been scoring goals and now the quality of goals I am scoring is better. I can now create chances to score for myself, and I have scored a free kick this year too.

"I have been scoring a lot more headers and my overall finishing has improved a lot. My overall play has improved but I want to give a lot more as I go through my journey in football."

The former Anderlecht man has now firmly established himself as Belgium's first choice striker and was on target again in the recent international break, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Greece.

Lukaku's club-mate Seamus Coleman, however was less fortunate while away with his country. The Republic of Ireland full-back had his leg broken by Neil Taylor, and Lukaku revealed he messaged him immediately after the game .

"I sent him a message that night actually and we as a team are going to do our best for him to make sure he is comfortable when he comes back into the team," said Lukaku. "He always gives 100 per cent to the team and is a leader in the dressing room. It is really sad that this happened to him."

From the Mirror, so won't post the link.

Rom's bits in bold.

Well you've repeatedly mentioned his desire to play in the CL during your criticisms of him, so it seems fair to assume this has irked you somewhat.

I totally agree that he needs to improve, and I totally agree that he can sometimes be anonymous. The point is, so can anyone. A load of people keep saying about him being a flat track bully, and not turning up in the big games. When evidence is presented to refute this, and show that his record stands up very well against others in these games, the goalposts get moved and games that would be classed as big if he failed aren't classed as big because he did well. Suddenly scoring in derbies, Semi finals, quarter finals, world cups and European championships isn't enough to suggest he can play on the big occasion, there's some further caveat to what counts.

He's nowhere near the level of Messi, Suarez, Ronaldo etc, but I don't think anyone's ever suggested he is. He can hold his own against the other top PL strikers though, and that'll do for now.

New contract then.

Thats all im saying. His goalscoring record cant be refuted - it is up there with any strikers records, not just the PL. However he isnt exempt from criticism for the rest of his play, especially in games where we actually have something to go for, something he himself is so desperate for.

I wanted a performance like he put in at Goodison a couple of years ago where he bullied Sakho and Skrtel, especially with having something to go for.

Hopefully he does sign a new contract!

I like this kinda talk a hell of lot more than some of the other stuff he's come out with. I'm still going to be more than cautious about this "saga" but if we sign quality this summer then it seems as though he's in it for the long(er) haul.

At least until the next international break.:coffee:

In games where Rom is not performing or is isolated, we need to have a Plan B....and we just don't seem to have one. In the derby on Saturday, he could have been a £100 million striker or a 50p one, you couldn't have told the difference. We simply cannot afford to be over reliant on one player.

And that is not a criticism of Lukaku. We just cannot place all our hopes in him every single game, because we will end up being deeply disappointed when he doesn't perform. Whatever the reason.
