Man Utd and Chelsea have made bids for Romelu Lukaku: I spoke to Everton - Paul Mariner
MANCHESTER UNITED and Chelsea have both made bids for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer, according to pundit Paul Mariner.

Lukaku wants to leave Everton and has rejected a new contract at Goodison Park in order to force a move away from the club.

Chelsea are in pole position to re-sign the Belgium international, three years after he left the club to join the Toffees on a permanent basis.

Manager Antonio Conte is reportedly not happy with the pursuit of the 24-year-old though and would prefer to sign Andrea Belotti from Torino.

United had shown interest in Lukaku as Jose Mourinho searches for a replacement for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who will leave the club today following the expiry of his contract.

And now Mariner has confirmed the Red Devils, along with Chelsea, have submitted offers for him.

"My mate is now the sporting director at Everton," the former Arsenal striker said on ESPN FC.

"I had a good chat with him and they're going to spend a lot of money this summer.

"They feel as if it's time they broke into that top four, it's a big ask but that's what Ronald Koeman and the staff want to do.

"They've had bids for Lukaku, mainly from Manchester United and Chelsea.

"It's a lot of money, I personally wouldn't be paying that sort of money.

"They think they can hold out for it but they've already added to the squad.

"It's going to be very, very interesting to see if they improve and I think they will improve."

Lukaku was the Premier League's second top scorer last season with 25 goals.

I love how everyone says "It's just the Lukaku money they're spending".

Yeah, because we're going to be playing with 10 men if we sell Lukaku, aren't we?
