Ronald Koeman discussion

He's not the most huggable guy. But I have to respect that he knows what he wants, and doesn't hold back in saying it.

Given the current squad and lack of purchases, I'm amazed we're this high in the table frankly. He has to get credit for that.

And the media coverage after his weekend comments appear to just be them looking for a story. I don't think there's any conflict with Walsh, if anything he was stating they're on the same page in knowing what they want out of this window. (Which is signing players if you hadn't guessed).

Now if only we could all back him. Board, fans, and players...

It does because our players are absolute crap mate

I wouldn't say they all are, but the last manager certainly ruined a lot of them with his gross mismanagement. This is why we need a clean sweep through the club.

The better players will come through again with confident and organised players around them.

Do you reckon another manager would come to Everton and be like 'love this squad, full of boss players. No new players needed'?

I think another manager might have at least tried to work with this squad whilst making changes instead of deciding the minute he walked in the door that he wanted a new squad...
The point is his response to everything is he needs new players. I posted that quote because he was saying the same thing then but at that time it was clearly rubbish because Emery came in and with the same squad of players finished third. Flores before Koeman replaced him also had them 4th.
I've no doubt we need some new players but he is failing to get the best out of the current players and that's down to his management.

The point is he does need new players. Any Everton manager coming in to this squad right now, Koeman or anyone, would need to gut the squad out. Martinez should have done it.

I keep saying it, any manager coming now would have the same problem. And I am certain the result would be the same as we are seeing now, or even worse the last 2 seasons.

Have to disagree, he's brought in five players and pretty much made little use of young players and really not improved things. It's ridiculous to say he can't do anything without needing to sign a whole team!

We'll have to agree to disagree then. For me it's been evident for a long long time that these players have been bottle jobs no matter who is the boss and simply aren't good enough. Especially for where we apparently want to be.

What I don't get is we've been somewhere between average to poor for about 4 or 5 years now, I have no idea how he was going to be able to fix it in 6 months.

100% this squad need completely gutting and starting again.

Doesn't mean the football has to be so dire in the meantime...

A manager usually has a certain type of style they like to implement so he will expect a certain criteria for each position for it to work effectively. You only need a couple of players not reaching his standard for his style and you have a partially broken team. Koeman needs his players in rather than trying to adapt to what players are at his disposal. What I am saying is this team cannot do what he requires due to certain players unable to implement his style. A manager does not throw away his style of play to adapt to players unable to do so. He has to get his own players in before we can judge fairly. The board do not seem to be acting quick enough for him therefore he is showing frustration and rightly so. I hope he continues to be honest and says it as it is to get things moving. He is a strong minded manager.

Positions of need: BOLD-NEED STARTER ITALICS-NEED DEPTH

GK

CB CB LB

RM CM? LM

AM/CF

ST

Notes:
  • Baines serviceable but needs replacement sometime soon
  • We will know more about CM after the window. Gueye and Schneiderlin would be ideal for now
  • Wings are God awful
  • Need more options than Barkley. Preferably a target man and another creative player
  • Keeper biggest position we need to upgrade
  • CB options are very short term (Also depends how our youth players such as Galloway and Holgate progress)
  • Mori unreliable
  • Coleman is solid
  • Need a backup for Rom
We need a sugar daddy basically (Dear Usmanov, we need you. sincerely Everton). THAT IS A LOT OF POSITIONS TO FILL MMMKKAY

Pretty funny how people defend koeman by citing that we're 7th in the league but then are happy to call the players crap because we're 7th in the league...

personally think it's a complete cop out to put it all on the players. the style of football we play is far more likely to be down to the manager. Vast majority of this squad have shown they can play possession football in previous seasons, yes we were ineffective with it a lot of the time but they can do it if asked to.

In terms of odds what's more likely to be the cause of a team playing ugly football... Them playing to the managers tactics or an entire squad magically becoming incapable of keeping posession in a 12 month period ?
