This is a risk for him in that his dreams of further progression up the elite managerial ladder will be hit hard if he is not a success here.

Now that it's confirmed, I don't mind the delay in hindsight if it is partly explained by him wanting hard assurances on our level of ambition and resources available.

I don't think he would have entertained the thought of coming to us if he was not convinced as to our intent to compete.
