Ronald Koeman discussion

Hate to say it ,but Lakaku is missed like hell. But for people to criticise him ,I would like to ask the question who could Koeman have realisticly brought in to replace him.
Also there are players out there at the moment who are far,far better players than their current form shows.

I'm sure it's nothing that hasn't already been said but I was willing to give him yesterday's match, and it was a massive disappointment.

Burnley is not a side that should be overlooked as they have achieved decent results and have really been playing better football than us all season and at times, last season. However there is no reason we shouldn't have at least come away with a point. We have more talent than they do on the pitch but we couldn't get a result. That's why I think he surely needs to be out.
They have teamwork, work ethic, belief and a manager with a plan....we have none of the above

His treatment of Barkley has been debated to death on here & I'm loathe to bring it up however josh winks of Tottenham has been called up to the England squad today.

Now I'm sorry but if this pretender wasnt publicly questioning tom Davies form & actually bothered to play our best fit midfielder then it would Be different.

I don't really want Davies to play for England but I'd imagine he wants too & unfortunately his chances of doing so are greatly increased playing somewhere else.

Michael Ball has his say in his red echo column.

There shouldn't be any excuses.

New signings need time to gel blah, blah, blah and, yes, we've had a tough start against tough teams.

But my problem is the manner of our performances, not just in the league but in the cups as well.

Apparently that was our first “unexpected loss” on Sunday against Burnley.

Yet displays at the moment are dire and very basic and there's no identity of a Ronald Koeman side, it looks like 11 individuals.

The players are trying, you can see that, but there is no direction.

Normally when you look at a team that is trying to gel, you see something, a glimmer of light, but we are way off the mark and Burnley at home should not be a tough game.

We shouldn't be playing two sitting central midfield players, but is that because he's worried about his centre-half, does he need protecting?

The manager needs to make big decisions, and I'm not just saying that as an easy get out, but because I was involved in it with Manchester City a long time ago.

Sven Goran Eriksson came in late in pre-season and we signed about 10 players in that short window – I think seven players came in during the last week – but we were in the fourth, fifth and sixth for the majority of the season, so it can work and it all comes down to the manager.

With Sven, we never had a day off because he wanted to drill into us how he wanted to play.

Good players, such as Elano and Martin Petrov, came in but they still had to get to know how the manager wanted to play and it does take time, but the speed at which players understand the game-plan is down to the coaching.

We also had kids coming through at City during that period - it reminds me a lot of Everton's situation – such as Daniel Sturridge, Micah Richards and Stephen Ireland, alongside the new signings.

We weren't setting the world alight but we were improving, we were in the top half of the table, we made Europe and did the double over United for the first time since 1969.

It was all down to the manager and his coaching staff who drilled into us how they wanted us to play.

Training sessions would see us literally walk through the system and formation and until we'd got it right, we'd not do any of the 'fun' elements, five-a-side and the like, until we'd nailed it.

We had an identity, unlike this Everton side.

Koeman is making decisions I can't understand, and I'm sure I'm not alone in thinking that, and it that is what worries me.

This was creeping in at the back end of last season and instead of going forwards we are going backwards.

He needs to ask himself if the players are playing in their right positions?

Are the team showing enough for the fans to be excited about?

Is it time for him to become more of a man-manager to get the best out of his squad?

This isn't the time to point fingers at his players and even though I've always liked his post-match honesty, we can all see the problems and don't need to hear about them – we need to see the solutions because that is what he gets paid for.

I'm now left questioning his training methods as well.

He's got plenty of time on his hands during this international break to think about what to do, but will only get his players back mid-way through the week leading up to the trip to Brighton.

It's far from ideal.

What I've found, in my experience, is that Dutch coaches like to break the game down and make it as simple as possible but the way Everton are currently playing is confusing.

Does Koeman know his best XI because it doesn't look like it?

He needs to nail his colours to the mast and say, for example: 'I'm going 4-4-2 and if someone doesn't perform then I'll replace him with someone else in that position'.

The squad is big enough for him to do that.

Koeman also needs to get the confidence back because there are senior pros playing like 16-year-olds.

Howard Kendall was the prime example of someone able to get the best of his players, he knew who needed a kick up the backside and who needed an arm round the shoulder.
