Ronald Koeman discussion

100% Lukaku is a better player when he has a strike partner. I have to disagree with "he is not that type of player" shouts. Why isn't he that type of player? he has everything there to be that type of player.
He just doesn't want to put the graft in my eyes.
Because he doesn't need to be that type of player? He's very good as a poacher, as someone who gets on the shoulder of the last man, and as someone who picks the ball up in wide positions and runs at people. He's not going to modify the game that has got him known as one of the world's top young strikers just to make him more suited to our current hoofball style is he?

Of course he would be a better player if he was very good at everything, but very very few are. Costa, for example, is much better than him in the air and at holding the ball up, but lacks Lukaku's pace and dynamism. Giroud would be the same, Benteke's a beast but could never score the type of goal Lukaku scored at City for example, or Chelsea in the cup last year.

The issue is most players who get to were he has got due to being a poacher don't have the physicality he possesses.

Modern foootbal up until recently was very much 1 up front a few teams with varying degrees of success have gone with two up top, however he doesn't need to base his game on being in a two man strike force to be fully effective he just needs to switch on as he has enough in his game to play as an effective loan striker or as part of A two man strike force but what he does seem to lack is heart & application.

If he wants it enough he can do almost anything as his goal scoring & physically will more than make up for the flaws in his technique.

Let's be honest the premiership stopped requiring techinque as a prerequisite for success some time ago & pace power & an eye for goal are possibly now more important provided your not a complete dog.

To be fair to him, I'm not aware that any of his coaches/managers have ever claimed he lacked heart or application. In fact he's often cited as having an excellent attitude and willingness to learn.

Maybe we as fans would like to see him doing certain things, but I'm not sure that his career will be held back massively if he doesn't do them.

I seem to recall a story that Giggs was peeved with him at 1 point, which if my memory serves was debunked by Depay.

I know this is off the thread but everthing that is wrong with football I.E. pure greed and complete disdain for the fans summed it up when Roy Hodgson stated that he is back in the market for a new job.

How him and others like him have the front to want to try to get their greedy little paws back in the honey pot again after his abject failure sums up modern day football.

There is no honour or honesty about personal performance these days its just pure greed and it is sickening.

How often does a manager publicly state a player lacks heart & application?

The disparity between his best games & worst games is too big a gap & it's not talent creating this void.

But, of course, Hodgson is not an 'abject failure'...his CV is good .....managed extensively at club level and international level and very well thought of at club level in Europe.International success with Switzerland(?) if my memory is right. He's had a good career in management has Roy. Don't forget that not winning the world cup with England doesn't make you a bad manager.

Laughing boy's press conference:

No January signings
Barkley's still a waster....and now he's not doing it in training
Holgate's a young player and therefore has dips in his form; so, no, he's not getting a starting place

Just about covers it.

Is very pleased with Holgate and is confident to use him
