Rooney is proven at international level whereas messi always looks a bit more normal playing for Argentina. This summer will probably change all that though.

Osasuna on Wed night for more Messi fun. Could this kid beat Dixies 60 goal in a season record? He's on 34 now, got possibly 5 more CL matches plus 11 more La Liga matches. So that's 16 games to score 24 goals, and this week he has banged in 8 in 3 games.

Scary stuff.

Although Dixie got 67 in total that season, so maybe it's a bridge too far for the little man.

Not to poo poo Dixie's record, but back then lots of players had a goal per game record. Nowadays one every two is considered good, so for Messi (and indeed Rooney) to have a goal per game is outstanding. I'd still pick Messi though. The guy is amazing.

I remember back in 2006 when Barca played Chelsea. He was only 18 yet gave the Chelsea full back a horrible time. Ended up with him trying to break Messi and getting sent off. You could see then he was destined for greatness.

As for best ever, quite possibly. I'd say he's already done more in club football than Maradonna. The only player in recent years to have reached this level was Ronaldo in his season at Barca. A good World Cup this summer and he'll be up with the legends of the game.
