Player Valuation: £150m
Living our dreams, as the Kopites might say.

:(

Thought he had a stinker last night, but he's played his part in that double success. Can't believe the doubters concerning his ability - 'he's over rated'. Pfffffftttttt!!!!!!!!!!!!

Great player but I had even higher expectations of him.

'Now maybe Evertonians will understand why I left, Everton were never going to reach this level'

Fair enough, but it took how many years? He could have gave us a chance rather than leaving at the first opportunity, transfer request on deadline day leaving us with no chance to get a replacement in or to thrash out a better deal.

"now evertonians will see why i had to leave" Ye, to get to a champions league final. An play fukkin awfull!! You fat melt, shame you never fell off that stage at the end. No matter how much money you have......you'll always be a TRAMP. An that missus of yours.......skip rat!!

Works both ways that, though. No one can deny Rooney jumped ship, but the financial pressures on EFC at the time meant his sale was welcomed by the club...there must have been some sighs of relief to get that money in. We could go all day debating was he mostly pushed or was it that he wanted out. As far as his ability is concerned, there's no question he's one of the best in Europe at what he does, regardless of the largely anonymous game he had last night.

Thing is though Dave, am sure the club would have rather have sold him in January, without a doubt. Or begin discussions earlier.

If they would have welcomed a sale, am sure he would have went a lot earlier, and for a higher fee.

Him handing in a transfer request hours before the deadline made the ball firmly in Man Utds court.

But we have moved on, and we are a much better side now, with the Rooney cash helping.

the lad wanted to leave and go to a club capable of winning the champions league, I say fair enough.

The fact that they have won the league and CL has made us a couple of million thanks to the deal we got.

So we got 20 odd million for a player who didnt want to stay, we got cahill, howard, neville, lescott, AJ,Yakubu & Pienaar since then, now the rooney money wouldnt have covered all those deals by fair margin but it gave the club breathing room to make the money available to moyes, and as I just said, rooneys success means we get another 2million!

I know I'll get flamed for this, because it happened in the past, but Howard Kendall left us the first time to move on to "better things and further his career" same reason as rooney.

I think all right-thinking Evertonians would have understood why the boy wanted to leave. I personally fully expected him to move on, and I would of held no grudge if he had been respectful of the institution that he had belonged to since he was old enough to kick a ball.

But like Danny says, the little creep kept us hanging on, and, and on, and on and then left us less than a day to negotiate the deal with Man United. He essentially did this in order to get the best deal for his next employer, rather than his then current employer, Everton. Sure, the money we eventually secured lead to a better future, but we would have got more if fat lad hadn't listened to his money grabbing agent.

The funny thing is, Ronney has not become the brilliant player we thought him to be. Ronaldo takes the shine off him, as does Tevez.

Massive, massive difference though Rob.

Rooney played a handful of games for us before leaving at the first chance. Kendall played about 250 times for us, managing us for 6 years before leaving for Bilbao (if thats what you mean...)

I dont think we'll ever get to the bottom of that transfer. It's easy to blame Stretford and the likes of Dalglish tapping him up, but that decision 'by Rooney' wasn't really by him. Badly advised I think is the expression used in these cases. If he'd spent another season or so at the club I'm sure the feeling against him wouldn't be as bad. People usually cite Torres staying at Athletico Madrid as the role model for Rooney. What they seem to forget is that A.Madrid completely refused any offer for Torres and made it plain they wanted him there by making him the linch pin of the team. Rooney was always being wrapped in cotton wool ready for sale. That's why he was used so sparingly at Everton. Everton did what Everton did best back then...sell it's own home grown players...it was part of the culture of the club we, thankfully, seem to have put to rest now.

Its just annoying when you think Rio Ferdinand went for more...

We should have been looking at £40m cash for Rooney after his performances in the Euros. No doubt Chelsea would have came looking and other clubs if we had longer to negotiate,

I dont know, he's getting a bit hit and miss for his club and country and only occasionally standing out from the team. He was non-existant in last nights game (I forgot he was subbed to be honest) just like he was against Barcelona.

And what position does he play? Out and out striker or support striker? Both? And when you have a winger scoring double what you've got in a season as a "world class" striker you can see some limitations. Its the same when he plays for England. He's no Mickey Owen (in his prime) or Lineker or Shearer.

Then you've gotta compare him to others around the world -

Messi
Tevez
Henry
Eto
Torres
Berbatov (maybe)
Ronaldo

- and he does really stand up on technical ability or score ratio.

Saying that, I'm not saying he wouldn't get into any team cos he would but he's considerably down the pecking order when it comes down to world class players/strikers.

I talked to a Manc fan friend of mine (who surprisingly happens to follow football from all over for a change) who said Rooney's all round game has improved at Man Utd. I agreed but I said he's lost that ability to grab a game by the scruff of the neck and actually run at players like he did 3-4 years ago, which my mate fully acepted.

Cometh the hour cometh the man - and last night Fat Lad went missing - even to the extent of looking apart from his teammates as they celebrated - plus throwing a strop when subbed (if you noticed he was on the pitch award yourself a nice virtual ice lolly)

It wouldn't be surprising if Purple Head takes the money Real offer one day - remember he ships out big noises when they challenge his (must be respected) orf-or-ity...

Then Fat Lad will be stuck in Madrid struggling to communicate with anyone (note 200 word vocabulary which mostly consists of "err")

I wonder what "err like, you know what I mean, like" is in Spanish!
