Rooney

Cometh the hour cometh the man - and last night Fat Lad went missing - even to the extent of looking apart from his teammates as they celebrated - plus throwing a strop when subbed (if you noticed he was on the pitch award yourself a nice virtual ice lolly)

It wouldn't be surprising if Purple Head takes the money Real offer one day - remember he ships out big noises when they challenge his (must be respected) orf-or-ity...

Then Fat Lad will be stuck in Madrid struggling to communicate with anyone (note 200 word vocabulary which mostly consists of "err")

I wonder what "err like, you know what I mean, like" is in Spanish!

I don't think err like Real would err like even offer the err kid a move like. He's too err feckin' dim to like adapt to life outside of his err comfort zone. Surely they would like err consider his err ability to integrate like before err offering a move like.

I don't think Rooney has made the most of his talent. When you look at how he played in Euro 2004 he looked set to be one of the finest players in world football. He hasn't really progressed from that moment for me. If you look at his England record for instance he scored more goals for England whilst with us than he has since leaving.

Its just annoying when you think Rio Ferdinand went for more...

We should have been looking at £40m cash for Rooney after his performances in the Euros. No doubt Chelsea would have came looking and other clubs if we had longer to negotiate,
Danny that was never going to happen Rooney had already stated he wanted to join the Mancs when Newcastle came in United who where prepared to wait then moved in in case Rooney changed his mind. The thing that angers me most is I was told by Manc fans that Rooney was going there even to the point of backing there words with a bet and this was at the end of Rooneys FIRST season skulduggery or lucky guess? I dont know but it cost me£25 the bet was he would play for them with in two years.:@

For me, the irony is that we got paid even though he didn't contribute last night.

Rooney's playing way too deep for United. Having said that, it's a team game and there's your justification this season for playing Rooney/Tevez/Ronaldo in the positions they're placed in by Ferguson.

I think we all know that Rooney has the kind of talent that can be utilised under different systems...he's that good. I honestly cant believe that some Evertonians deny his talent when we have first hand experience of what a 16/17 year old Rooney could do. I hate to say it, but there's way too much bitterness around the debate over Rooney. We need to move on as the club has already.

No doubt he's a special talent. Just didn't work out for him last night. To be fair, it didn't go well for Tevez either.

I doubht when he signed for them though he imagined being in the supporting cast for Ronaldo, Ferguson puts him anywhere he can, to leave room for Ronaldo, for me what he has turned into is just a work horse, an occasional scorer and a decoy for Ronaldo.

No Manger be it at club or international level know what his position is, and i think he is danger of being the victim of his own willingness and veratility at the expense of his own talent! Shame but wont be looseing any sleep over it!

I think the majority of fans would accept that we are bitter towards this loafheaded prick. When he kissed his Manu badge in front of the park end a few years ago summed it up for me, no class, no respect and no understanding of the status he would have achieved at this club.

Rooney at 16/17 = Wonderkid, endless potential and raw passion.

Rooney at 22 = Over-hyped, over-rated and overshadowed by Ronaldo on a more than regular basis.

Who knows what would have happened if he had stayed with us, but he would have left at some point anyway.

He's probably only the 6th-7th best player on United (Rio, Vidic, Evra, Ronaldo, Tevez). If this is England's most talented player well then I don't think its a suprise that they didn't qualify for Euro 08.

The problem with big money teams is that turn great players into just another guy. Look at Tevez, on the Hammers (when Curbs actually find out who he was), he always had the ball at his feet and at times his energy and creativity took your breath away. Now that he's on Utd. he's just a goal poacher (granted a pretty good one) but the flair and excitement that you seen on West Ham is gone because he has to defer to Ronaldo and never has the ball at his feet.

The same with Rooney, he was a different player on Everton (and on the national team), now he doesn't get 1/2 the touches that he did on Everton, its almost like he's lost experience.

agreed Rook, as far as i'm concerned he didn't win the champions league, man utd won the champions league with him in the squad. When people look back to remember that game, they'll think of ronaldo, vidic, the talismanic giggs etc, but they won't think of wayne rooney as a hero, the lad was subbed off before pks!

i'm not sure what that quote you're all referencing is from, but if it was from last night than i find it absurd. first of all, if he really has moved on, why the [Poor language removed] is he thinking of us on the night that he won the champions league?? secondly, how can he say that it wouldn't have been possible at everton. granted i know his transfer helped us out financially and we wouldn't be the same side had we sold him, but that aside, the season after we sold him we finished one place behind manchester united! albeit the margin was significant but who knows if we may have progressed further in the champions league if we still had him, qualifying for the group stages and maybe getting lucky enough to make it through may have been the financial springboard we needed anyways!

i know hypotheticals are a bit ridiculous, but if wayne had stayed with us, and we had progressed further in the champions league thanks to him, i think its safe to say he would have been more of a hero, even though we wouldn't have won the whole competition. as far as i'm concerned, the only progress he's made is to land a spot on a team that is winning a good deal at the moment, but as an individual he's been stagnant and slightly below the expected growth curve at best.

Ferguson has played him a striker which he isn't and he looks out of sorts there. Once Scholes retires Rooney will drop back and do that job. He has grown up and taken much of the aggression out of his game, that has changed him as a player.

I hate Man U for all the right reasons but I can't think of anywhere better Rooney could have gone to learn his trade.

He's still got shitloads of talent, for example the ball he played to Ronaldo from defence was outstanding.

the thing is that he was playing those kind of balls when he was 17..he just didnt have the class players on the end of them.

i think everyone on here agrees that he isnt the player that we thought he would be by his age

I think I agree with the general consensus of opinions about his development, or lack of it. However, I would never compare him to the likes of Owen or Shearer in the goalscoring stakes. I think He was always going to be more in the Beardsley/Sheringham/Scholes mode of provider. If England had a world class scorer (in his prime) along side him (or in front of him), We'd see the best of Rooney in an England shirt.
