Ross Barkley joins Chelsea, er, Villa on loan

Best player on the pitch yesterday and best he's played since the Martinez days, still dont think he'll make it as a consistent starter for Chelsea though, is one level below that and should've stayed here
He's starting to pick up the ball and run at/past people again. As you say we haven't seen that since the Martinez days and was one of the reasons I haven't really missed him.

However seeing some vintage Ross for England over the last 2 games has made me realise what we're missing, and why we considered him such a prospect.

Don't think he's progressed much at all since his first few seasons myself, certainly hasn't lived upto the hype (maybe unrealistically placed on him and not his fault) that many Evertonians and journos and pundits spouted about him before he was a first team regular here. Since he left he hasn't really established himself in a quite poor Chelsea team bar the odd game here and there but seems that's enough for him to be selected for England. Doubt he'll ever be recognised as a top level player but he's decent enough on his day just not consistently enough which is the difference from the top level players.

He can't do it on a cold, wet night in Stoke or in front of frothing at the mouth home fans at the Bridge, but Ross lad apparently can play a blinder in Montenegro.

Blind squirrels and nuts and all that

He will be a bench warmer when he gets to Chelsea
wont get back into the England set up now
Wont win anything at Chelsea
A loan move to West ham In the January transfer
This

If Abramovich wasn't made of Rubles and cared about re-sell value, he'd be salivating over that game putting Ross in the shop window

Oddly I think Ross is in the ideal spot for him as a squad player at a top six club. He can go out there against terrible national sides, second-tier European teams, and PL bottom feeders and put in a decent shift. And he doesn’t have to worry about getting exposed in big games because when those come around, Chelsea will use better players than him.
