Doesnt have the mental agility to play consistently well, nor the mental resilience to man up when things arent going well. He is at his core a coward. Compare the young Barkley with the young Grealish, who also got stick at times from the fans at his boyhood club. Grealish had the strengths needed to keep going, believe in himself and play though the tough times that every skillful players has. Barkley does not, when things arent coming off he stops trying, looks for the safe two yard sideways or backwards pass (often placing a teammate under immediate pressure).

He has all the skills under the sun to be a very, very good player, but none of the mentality to go with it. I would be genuinely gutted if we took him back even on a free. Imagine having to field him and gomes in the same midfield??

Ive spoken to a few people who know him personally, 1 of them being his former personal chef, who all said he's one of the nicest lads you could meet and looks after himself, but i guess the internet knows better.

On a free, on the right wage, id take him back, because im sure he would love to make things right and he is way better than what we have.

If someone had said 5-6 years ago we could potentially have a team with Barkley, Dele and Gray in it for £1.7m,id have said they were deluded.

Free transfers still cost money and contracts aren't free either. To be honest I've not spent much time watching Barkley over the last couple of years so I don't know if he still has the flaws in his game that were apparent when I did used to see more of him.

What I do know is that he delayed his Chelsea move so he could take a few 100k more in wages from Everton and help knock a few million off the price for Chelsea.
