Central midfield -Ross Barkley

Interested to know why everyone thinks Barkley should or shouldn't be drafted in over the next few games with Fellaini and now Gibson otherwise engaged. Personally, despite seeing all of his appearances in the first team I'm yet to be convinced that the lad is as good as we hope - that's not me having a dig before everyone dives in - just not quite seen it from him yet. That said, Wigan at home is the perfect game for a technically gifted youngster to get 90 mins, and it would boost the atmosphere on Boxing Day with a big crowd still under the influence, which in turn would give the lad the confidence to show exactly what all the expectation and excitement is about.
I remember being equally unconvinced with Jack Rodwell, and to some extent, was right in the end, but I'm sincerely hoping Barkley plays, wipes the floor with Wigan and then lines up against Chelsea on Sunday.

Go for it lad.

Don't think that he should play centre mid but should most definitely play ACM behind Anichebe with Jeli taking a rest. Neville at right back with Hitz and Osman in midfield.

Big crowd still under the influence might be the problem if he misplaces a few passes early on.

If we're without Gibson, Fellaini, Coleman, Hibbert and Mirallas for Wigan, I'd go for:

Howard
Jagielka Heitinga Distin Baines
Barkley/Oviedo Neville Osman Pienaar
Anichebe
Jelavic

Wouldn't drop Jelavic for this, it's a great opportunity for us to score a few goals and get him on the scoresheet.

Why play JH who is totally classlass ? putting him in the shop window at west ham knocked millions off his selling fee in January why mess the team up just for him - Barkley should have played as should PN at right back! PN seem to drift over there in the 2nd half as JH was so crass! Barkley looked more than good enough when coming on as sub V Stoke!

He obviously wasn't ready to play against West Ham.

Was ready to play against Stoke though.

Maybe his knees fell off midweek and he only just got them stitched back on.
