You don't not take cole. He's still a top class LB. Lampard I think may and should probably miss out IMO. I don't honestly think tho any of our young CM players are really suited to the deep CM roles. Barkley, Wiltshire and Morrison are all attacking CM players. Which in effect means there battling with Rooney for the No.10 shirt. Wiltshire maybe at a push could play deeper (not based on current form) and Barkley maybe in 5 yrs time but there lies the problem.... Gerrard carrick lampard and I'd say Barry are still the best choices for the deep roles currently.

Dependent on opposition i'd like to see more of Rooney up top with a Barkley/Wiltshire/Morrison behind him. And still after about 20 yrs now, we still don't have a LW player which is unbelievable.

Cahill is a liability at CB, and the fact Johnson and walker are the best choices at RB speaks for its self. Personally think stones should be optimistic about his future.

Gerrard and lampard have been trying to occupy the same space on the pitch for almost a decade. Gerrard getting pushed here there and everywhere was part of the problem, you need a team, not necessarily the best players shoe horned into the starting 11, we have always lacked balance.

Baines is there if not better than cole so why take him? We need to start looking to the future and be adventurous. We do the same 5hite with the same players every tournament.

Lampard was 5hite against Montenegro and 5hite when he came on against poland. Wouldnt even entertain taking him on the plane. Leave the aging chelsea pros in london and lets try to build for Euro 16.
 
It's gonna be absolutely gutting for Leighton to go to the world cup as Ashley Cole's backup, and probably get a grand total of 90 minutes if we've already qualified with a group game left go to. If that. Just sickening really, the best left back probably in Europe, easily better than Cole and offers a LOT more, is likely going to be backup. We'll go out probably second round, Roy will be fired, and it'll be too late for Leighton then for his international career.
 

Baines is not "easily" better than cole and it's ridiculous to try and claim cole has let England down at tournaments... He's the one player who never lets England down.

agreed. Ashley cole has been a top drawer left back for way longer than baines has. He has never let us down in an england shirt so he shudnt lose his place imo. Baines is an adequate back up, dont forget warnock got took to S.Africa ahead of baines..

You pick the best player to win you games, not because of loyalty.

Baines is a better player in the modern game than Cole, i honestly struggle to think of many top fullbacks who have never scored for their national side or create as little as he does. He gets away with that for a Chelsea team who are full to the brim with creative players, but England aren't.

The stats have proven time and time again that Baines is just as good a defensive player as Cole, and offensively he's in a different league.

Yep, this is the problem with the English team, too much loyalty to players who have "done the job". I mean, what job have Lampard, Gerrard, Cole, Rooney etc done? They've won [Poor language removed] all and even taken the country backwards in terms of results and rankings.

Would love to see the new younger players coming through given a go, but I think it's probably better in some ways that they don't, because when they lose they'll be unnecessarily ripped to pieces in the media.

One thing is to 'not let England down' another thing is simply to offer more. Baines now does the latter. What Cole has done in the past should have no baring on the fact that for the last 3 years, Baines has been the better left back.
