Exactly. Which is why they had to stop playing there. We had Osman and Cahill at AMF for so many seasons, they hardly drove at defenders.
Good news?
Martinez - 'it could be less or more than 6 weeks with Ross'.
This is THE point of it all. Lukaku will be wasted this season if he isn't getting the right service. Even Barkley last season wasn't doing that enough. We need a player who can make things happen behind Lukaku.Because lukaku isn't the type to get the ball and run at players ala suarez/sturridge etc. Why pay £28 mil for a striker if we don't intend to make him the focal point of our attack?

I think he sounded downbeat over Barkley, but that could be because he knows what a stupid arse decision it was by one member of the squad to go in and cripple his own team mate.FFS Bobby if you don't have anything "not stupid" to say, don't say anything at all.
That's not an answer. "We don't know" would have sufficed.
Thing is though, Lukaku was exactly the same last season in the same system. He was rubbish when we stopped the counter attacking play of 2013 when we were transitioning. Today is exactly what I expected to see, which is demoralising, as I thought Martinez would have set up to accommodate a £28m striker rather than shoehorn him in.
Just going to have to see when he's "match fit", which given he's had an entire pre-season you'd expect him to be, but no, because he didn't play a single bloody game for some reason.
Pfft..

That enrages me, tbh. All the WC recovery talk was bollocks. Other WC players went right through to the final and were playing preseason.

Zabaleta, Aguero, Demicheles, Mertesaker, Ozil, Podolski - none of them have played pre-season
Wouldn't argue with that as long as it is a player of that quality who can play both roles very well.Depends on Barks doesn't it. I still think we'll get another striker in whatever. It looks like Ross will be out for at least two months, but we won't know for sure until probably mid-week. If it is definitely gonna be 2 months or more, we really should make another No.10 type a priority. If it's going to be less, then maybe a versatile forward such as Remy would suffice.
I'd also question the wisdom of a behind closed doors game midweek before the season kicks off. No wonder those lads were friggin goosed out there today. Not playing Mirallas and Lukaku against Paderborn at the very least is just an all out blatant error, and we saw the proof of it today.
I can understand poor pre-season performances and don't take much stock in them, but to just outright not give players a run out for no valid reason whatsoever is just ridiculous.
