We've already spent over 30m, m8

Pienaar can play no.10, as can McGeady and Naismith

I'd rather we spent what little money we may have left on a long term signing, not a quick fix who probably wouldn't be any better than what we already have

Of money raised from player sales over the last 2 seasons (Fellaini, Jelavic, Anichebe). We should have money, we should be spending.

We won't.

Why do so many blues accept make do and mend when things like this happen? No wonder we win **** all these days. The expectation level is on the floor. Play Naismith/Pienaar/McGeady in there. Yeah, ok. Just for a game or two but not half a season. We;ll be struggling. Besides, we needed some sort of playmaker even before Barkley was done.

The chequebok needs to come out for a player of that nature and a forward to place pressure on Lukaku, otherwise this season is going to turn into a lost one even before it's out of August.

What exactly are you basing this on? We have essentially the same squad as last year plus besic.

Whilst this is true, it's a bit misleading. Barry, Lukaku and McCarthy are now firmly established, as opposed to having a bedding in period. Stones and Oviedo have emerged as very good players. This time last year, there were many, many posters on here adamant that Oviedo was a bit crap, and even more posters were adamant that Naismith was a waste of space who just sucked up daylight.

Coleman has taken himself to a whole new level, and McGeady is effectively just starting out for us.

I think opinion(s) on the squad now would be a lot more positive than after the transfer window closed last season.

I do get what you mean though.

This. Probably loads of swelling, but at the moment it's looking like it could be December before he's back playing - maybe mid-november back to training. Can't risk it with knee ligaments
It could be five months, but it could also be "seven weeks." I'm remaining optimistic for the latter.

Either way, the quotes didn't seem like Martinez (or the training staff) had a strong indication of just how severe the injury is. Every media entity is playing up the five months bit. Martinez would've been better off saying as little as possible until the MRI.

I try not to be a pessimist, but I am a realist and the concern for me is that Martinez confirmed it was a medial knee ligament tear.

I sustained that injury playing a match when I dislocated my patella. There are different grades of MCL tears, 1 to 3 with 3 a complete rupture which is what I had. From what we have heard already about the amount of swelling it is at least a grade 2, which is 3-4 weeks minimum rest before beginning rehab. I was immobilised in a knee brace for over 6 weeks and, although it is 'unlocked' a bit at a time to allow you to gently begin to manoeuvre it, when it was taken off I could barely bend my knee at all - some others on here will probably have experienced this, for a while you wonder if you will ever be able to fully bend it again! They don't usually choose to operate on an MCL like an ACL, which is a benefit, as less chance of any other problems like infections getting in a wound.

Considering I am in my mid-30's and only reasonably fit compared to an athlete like Ross and had to go to work rather than being able to spend all day doing physio, let's hope these kind of recovery times are reduced.

Here's hoping it is only a grade 2 and it is closer to the 7 weeks for the lad. It is sad for us, but must be devastating for him at such a key moment of his career, coming off the back of the World Cup.

Naismith has to play number 10 for me hes a clever player good on the ball and can score goals if he played all season I would expect him to get 15 goals
Defo don't wont pienaar there he's not a goal threat and he's finished for me ok had a decent game today but we need better
Also no disrespect but Naismith needs pacy players to play infront of him like mirralas & Atsu and hopefully we will get another forward who has pace and can play upfront and wide
Remy would have been perfect

What a shitter if it's long term!!!

For those championing Naismith...be realistic lads, he's shown he's a great squad player who can come in and do well but would any of the top 4 sign him?? NO they would not!!

No he wouldn't but none of our attacking players would get in the top 4 and for me he's the most suited to play that position
