Personally I thought it was Japan that made it difficult on Belgium. I thought they played inspired, and took the game to them by pressing and playing good attacking football. That second goal scored by a German, Englishman, Messi, or Ronaldo would have been lauded as an absolute world class moment. But because Japan is classed as a lesser footballing country it's hardly even a thing. It was as pure of a strike of a football you will see. Didn't even have a half turn of spin on it.

Inspired or not it was the right substitution.

Belgium were on the ropes and two subs helped them advance. Sure they shouldn't have been in that position, but how many nations have bowed out early in this WC by not sorting out their problems and not being able to turn a match around in their favor.

Well England were getting pelters for scraping a last minute win against Tunisia, but Belgium do it with a team full of world class players against a lower ranked team and suddenly the manager is vindicated as a roaring success. It’s a bit much, all this.

Worldwide your English players would be rated right along side those Belgians for the most part.

How many teams at this world cup have come back from a 2-0 deficit to win?

Kev., you and your ilk lost this debate. Martinez has done the business at Belgium knitting together a team of talented individuals and giving them a way to play that uses all the talent available...and adding a pair of bollocks to them that Wilmots could never find.

You and your chums just need to accept it: the man is a manager - a VERY VERY good manager.
Hahaha, he’s just taken arguably the best squad in the tournament through a 3-2 last second win against JAPAN lol, after being 2-0 down to JAPAN.

Allardyce would have got that lot past Panama, Tunisia and Englands reserves.

IF he somehow manages to come up with a strategy to see off Brazil, then you can start crowing, but as of now he’s delivered the bare minimum that he was expected to, and had they lost last night, which looked highly likely until he went route one with the grock, he’d have been jobless by the weekend.

Shame he was absolutely shabyte as everton manager. You weird wiganer

First team to come back and win from 2 -0 down in WC since West Germany came back against England in 70

Nope. Mission accomplished at this WC: QF stage after 12 months in charge - now they have a bonus crunch game with Brazil...the team Southgate was too cowardly to face.

This Friday night: Roberto looking forward to facing Brazil; Baines looking forward to watching an hour long Coronation Street.

Karma.

Japan are not a bad side. Very comfortable on the ball and work their backsides off. Their weakness is their keeper who is pretty shambolic.

This World Cup has already seen Spain, Portugal, Germany etc dip out and the likes of Netherlands and Italy didn't even make it. Who they have played is totally irrelevant, its a results based game so that's all that matters surely?

Of course if Belgium do beat Brazil (and they very well could) it will be down to them having the best squad etc etc....
