Rugby League at BMD

But again, a couple of games year (because that's the max we're talking about here) is hardly enough to make the stadium be known for the thing. Rugby League is a minority sport Dave, if people who love it (myself being one) come to view our new stadium as one of the homes of that game then it can only be a good thing. Nobody outside of the Rugby League bubble will ever associate it with the sport because they don't care.
Having said all that, I'd actually like to watch a top level rugby match.

The city of Liverpool has had rugby league teams in the past: Liverpool Stanley RFC, Liverpool City RFC, which morphed into Huyton RFC.

It's not completely alien but it hasn't got the interest of scousers generally speaking.

To be honest, I’m not sure Scousers will be able to cope with the physicality and toughness of a proper man’s game. Not after years of revering the likes of Richarlison and salah rolling around like fannies at the slightest contact

They’ve been talking about taking the hurling abroad - well, America - so embracing the 33rd county wouldn’t totally out the question (if its feasible)

Would be a sizeable injection for the GAA to bring anything over here. Proves they could charge…
The all Ireland hurling final will not be played in England. They might do an exhibition match but I’d say it’s less than 1% chance for a championship game and 0% for a final.

BMD has a capacity of almost 30k less than Croke Park

As I've said since:

Exhibition would be fine here too, not taking the all-Ireland away

I own and have ran the Saints website/youtube chann ‘Redvee’ for the last 22 years as well as contributing to various media outlets.

Rugby League at BMD is huge - the test is the most likely to sell out and if it does then it’ll likely see the Magic Weekend come here - given it’s likely held the week after the footy season finishes it wouldn’t make a any odds that 6 games would be played on it as we dig the pitch up anyway and relay it every year.

Magic Weekend makes 9m a year for the local Newcastle economy and they love it…. BMD with the fan plaza and relatively close proximity to the city centre means it will work in a way that Anfield couldn’t and failed.

RL doesn’t damage a Pitch. LFC paid for the same type of surface at Saints stadium as at BMD… it’s like a carpet and doesn’t suffer at all.

In terms of Grand Finals the most likely place for it to end up is the Etihad due to Manchester being in the middle of Lancashire/Yorkshire, but Magic is the bigger money spinner.

I’ve bought tickets today, got my own ST seat and bought 11 others… many wouldn’t bother going to the Ashes game despite being by fervent RL fans, but all want to visit BMD.

When you say abroad do you mean outside of Munster and Killkenny?
New York and London have teams in the championship in the football but its never really been much of a success.

They play exhibition games in America. New York host a championship game every 2nd year. There is no hope in the world that the all Ireland final will be played elsewhere. 82000 people and what it brings to the economy of Dublin that weekend.
They did play a football final in New York back in 1947. I`d say if the GAA were offered the right money they`d consider it again.

Not a hope. They may play something like a league final or something away again but not the all Ireland final. But even that's a stretch I'd suggest.
It's an Irish game. It will never develop hugely outside of Ireland.

I'm all for this type of stuff, odd exhibition for other sports or some sort of footy final each year, we need the additional revenue stream. Hopefully we're also looking to host UEFA cup competition finals mens and womens. Will keep our name in the media and relevant.

The Rugby League has similar impact on the pitch to footy, so maintenance should be sound.

Anyway hopefully can get tickets to the ashes and experience the new stadium under different conditions (and with Aussies)
