Saw them 3x when I was in middle school/early high school; it was the Moving Pictures, Signals, and Grace Under Pressure tours (I think). I haven't really payed attention to their later stuff after Signals. And I don't really listen to them anymore, but some of their old songs I'll throw on for nostaglic purposes.

Yeah, me too. Saw them again, but honestly cant remember the tour name, but the CD was red. They were really good live, if perhaps a bit sterile. Deffo an aquired taste though.

Bringing back all sorts of memories now. What was that short, (by their standards), acoustic classic that they always played live from Farewell to Kings called? One of the first tunes I learnt on guitar it was.

edit. Closer to the Heart?
Love how they could knock out nice acoustic ballads (as above) as well as virtuoso epics like La Villa Strangiato and YYZ

I think I have forgotten more tracks than I recall. I loved Hemispheres, Moving Pictures, and Signals as well, and the drum fill in the live Exit Stage Left (?) version of one of the classics was amazeballs.

Pretty much this. I think they got more bad songs than good

Pretty much you could level that at any band who had recorded for about 45 years. AC/DC last tour set was probably 80% from albums pre 1982. Or, in other words, when I saw them in 1981, other the a few songs from the album the were promoting at the time, when I saw them again perhaps 6 years ago, they had added 2 from their output since then.

Very true, although I don't the hype with Rush. But that's music for you, very subjective most of the time

Aye, true. Rush have enough good tracks to deliver a triffic 2 hour gig, if you like them. But like most prog rock ish bands, they didnt half love themselves at times.

Its like The Stranglers, another fave of mine. Could probably write the set list, less new album stuff, for them.

On Sky Arts atm. Gig from 2012.

You either know/like them or you dont. I love them, but havnt played a record of theirs for ever. Saw them several times at their peak, (Moving Pictures/Perm Waves), and they still sound ace.

Shame Neil Peart is no longer with us, and the guitarist, Alex Liveson looks a bit like Boris Johnson.
@Old Blue 2

Float you boat mate?
They should have done. Still listen to the older Genesis, Camel, Yes, Marillion but I never could get Rush...might try again.

I have mad respect for their talent. And they seem like some of the most likable and well-adjusted rock stars ever.

Me and my brother have a ‘trilogy’ purple patch theory for bands. When you look back on their career there may we’ll be classic tracks elsewhere but the core of their live set, fan’s favourites and money spinners often come from a three album period, usually not that far from the start of their career. We do still argue about which three albums of course.

The only major rock band I can think of whose trilogy came later to them was the Scorpions. Lovedrive, Animal Magnetism and Blackout
