Russell Brand: charged with sex crimes

think Katherine Ryan was the first to publicly out him in 2023, there were rumours for years prior that there was a prominent public figure (I wont use the term comedian) who had assaulted girls in the fame social circles
Theres tonnes of this all thro hollyweird... (allegedly!). Proper big and well known ones too... allegedly.

I used to like Brands for a period of time, but I’m pretty ashamed that this was largely due to the fact I agreed with a lot of things he was saying at the time when in retrospect, he was obviously a very suspect individual.
Yeah, same. When he was doing his broadly left wing, ‘the current political system is broken’, ‘systemic change is needed’ act, he gained some traction.

Then someone bought me his book ‘Revolution’ for Xmas, and it was the most badly written, sub-GCSE standard, politically and historically illiterate thing I’d ever read.

As soon as he realised there was more money in the anti-vax, conspiracy led, Alex Jones, right wing model, he jumped into that sea of money without a second’s thought.

(And he’s always clearly been a sexual predator, cleverly disguising himself as a sexual predator)

A lass I know said she met Brands once when he came over to her in a bar and asked (in his weird faux Jack Sparrow act) if she wanted to go to the toilet for some ‘procreation’ or some other bullshit turn of phrase. She declined and he did his flounce off thing.

if he’d done this in a normal manner, it would have seemed like more deviant behaviour but he’d learned this act and created this persona meaning he could get away with a lot more.

My mrs and a few ex girlfriends of mine lived the whole party scene, uni lifestyle in their early 20s around fifteen years ago.

The same names always pop up of very well known men just hanging round student bars to pick up young girls. Some of them would have been at least ten years older than they girls they were picking up and are still in the public eye now, some trying to reinvent themselves as wholesome family men.

I’ve seen it myself knocking around with lads in bands who thought they could just pick up any girl they wanted.

Having someone like Brand at the forefront of the culture back then played a big part in some terrible behaviour.

It was such a seedy time back then but it was very much promoted to young people.

I think it’s going to catch up with a lot of people eventually.

To be clear; rape and sexual assault of any kind are unacceptable and must be punished when the evidence supports it.

However, being promiscuous is not a crime. Sleeping with 100's of different partners is not a crime. Sleeping with legally aged people when you're older than them is not a crime. What you are describing is a world away from rape.

A lot of predatory behaviour back then which was normalised by people like Russell Brand and the culture of the time.

I was part of it myself, it was grim.

A lot of women are looking back on their experiences and starting to realise it went way beyond a drunk one night stand.

TBF these posts do seem to repeat a lot of cliches that are put about to try and obscure what prominent people charged with rape have been alleged to have done - that sort of well he’s a celebrity / a footballer / a musician therefore birds must have been throwing themselves at him or everyone was at it back then, it was a different time.

What he’s been publicly alleged to have done was not like this, nor were (generally) the other prominent people who’ve been convicted of sexual assault doing things like this when they committed the offences that led to their convictions.

Reading the article the police are hopeful this announcement will encourage more women to come forward and strengthen their overall case. I watched the documentary on channel 4 and it stated there was a pattern to his behaviour which would indicate there are a high number of women he has attacked over the years.
It’s incredibly sad that these predators are able to operate for so long and are largely protected by the media.

Wouldn’t say they were protected by the media so much. More the institutions they work for. You see a pattern in these cases where plenty of people working around them, are aware of what they are up too, but largely remain silent or even enable it, in order to protect their own interests.

Look at Weinstein, Abercrombie and Fitch, Al Fayed etc.
