The question that begs of course is how did he manage to get there from being head of the KGB. I am not going to put my answer in because I want to be able to walk down the street!
Right now a bunch of Russian Billionaires with links to the Kremlin and Putin want to buy our North Sea oil fields from Germany's RWE. The resources are said to be worth 600 BN. Government is trying to block because of fear of energy security considering the Ukraine problem, Sanctions and Russia's threat to cut off the gas. For me it has to be stopped, cannot have a position where if they got upset and turned off the oil and gas taps. At the end of the day this lot are no better than gangsters.

Agree with much you say here, although Russia needs the foreign currency revenues desperately and is tied into long term supply contracts with much of Western Europe so I think it is unlikely that supplies would be stopped from the Russian side.
Somewhat related is the following little story about Putin:
There's a guy I know who is CEO of a large Russian energy company. Anyway he's on a sailing holiday with his young family and is a couple of days out of Miami when he gets a call from Moscow saying Putin wants to see him immediately. He must get to Moscow as quickly as he possibly can.
So the guy arranges for a helicopter to pick him up from his boat and arranges a private jet to get him from Miami to Moscow as soon as possible. In all, from getting the call to arriving in Moscow takes 28 hours. When he arrives at Putin's office there's no-one there. Putin had got fed up waiting and gone fishing and wouldn't be back for 2 days - no-one told the guy lol

No real idea, but bonkers if it is half of that. He owns a "Villa" that cost $1 Billion to build on the Black Sea apparently. Or is worth that, or something.
