Oh, if you want a good read about espionage, a real read (not a fake novel, read a book called Blind Man's Bluff by Sherry Sontag and Christopher Drew. They also did a documentary of the same name that I am sure you can find with your internet searching skillz.

i dont believe my internet searching skills are at question.

i believe (if i recall correctly) that the russian space program sold some 50 'engines' to the americans/nasa at some point in the past.

it was about design and efficiency. there is nothing in this point beyond that.

i was talking specific rocket design in the 50's and 60's (if i recall correctly)

It may be. We kicked the Soviets asses into gear to build Nuclear Weapons. We came up with the novel idea of putting a nuclear reactor on a submarine. They came up with some clever stuff that we nicked too.

Read the book. We did some audacious stuff during the cold war.

im not talking about the victorious, im talking about the losers in that economic campaign.

invention and intelligence know no social bounds, nor economic or political. an idea, can and has spanned humanity.

From what I just read up, they had harboured ideas of space travel since before world war one. However, it really took off when they got some Nazi scientists after WWII. We got some too. With the Nazi scientists came many innovations. It is almost scary to think of what they were doing while we (US and Soviets alike) were working on stuff 10 years behind them.

Dylan - You took my post seriously?

I'm amazed, I was talking about noodles... OF DEATH!!

maybe this subject is a little too close to home for you for it to be funny, anyway I bet you expected to see me bashing the US on the subject of the cold war...

NOPE. (y)

Cold War II: The Re-Make!!!!!

We won the first one, and we will win the second one ;)

Our SSBN's still own everybody on the planet. Oh, that, and we have made fighter developments (F-22, JSF), submarine developments (Seawolf, Virginia) and are working on a new class of aircraft carrier. In addition to our A-10's, F-15's, B-52's all still at the top of their game, all the land based ICBM's we still maintain. They have stood still, we have moved forward. Immeasurably.

All the toys in the world didnt save the brits bacon last time. If it wasnt for the aussies and the kiwi boys George W Hitler III would be sitting on dover having scones and sourkraut right now.

well, to be fair it was a collective effort.

I understand the sarcasm in the post, but you do bring up a good point in China. They are making waves like they are it, but they have a ways to go first. And traditionally the Russians have always been weary of the Chinese communists, as they almost have a Hitler complex going on (the chinese do). The Soviets referred to all of their commie subordinates as their 'fraternal socialist allies'

 Not quite. I hate what they stand for. Communism is flawed from the beginning and the old USSR and China use it for power exploitation more than anything else.

I hate China's copyright and patent infringements, taking away money from US, British, Japanese et al companies.

Crap, gotta go to work, so am cutting this short!

"well, to be fair it was a collective effort." - rob

Yes, for sure. The casualties and sacrifice went round all sides, and no doubt the British felt the brunt.

We wooped them together.
