This thread is hilarious and nobody is learning their lesson!

Match fitness takes a long time. When Rondon came he was not match fit, therefore he was rubbish. He worked hard to get match fit and now he’s alright, works hard and holds the ball up/wins flick ons.

Now loads are saying ‘he’s doing what DCL should be doing’ when it’s really clear that he hasn’t been match fit all season and every time he gets a few matches under his belt he gets another injury. Again, this doesn’t make him rubbish, it makes him unfit.

In elite football you need to be at your best and if you’re not fully fit, you lose the edge to dominate an opponent.
I mean he genuinely is rubbish in the grand scheme of things to be honest, but being rubbish doesn’t stop you from being a nuisance and he was a nuisance last night which helped us.

It is the same posters every time. So quick to jump on our players, they love them to be crap so they can out moan each other. Pathetic

True this, like Iwobi against Newcastle, and last night, desperate for him to have a bad game after he pipped them down.
The last thing some want now is Rondon to do well after the disgraceful way some acted towards him in the early months of the season.

Both him and Myko had been written off after 45 minutes, astonishing.
BTW, I am not saying Rondon is the Aguero, just that we need to let people get fit and established before deciding they are crap.
Rondon will be usefull for the rest of the season, especially with DCL being out of form

Needs to be playing every game now, because Richarlison cant lead the line.

If that means we change formation to accomodate it then that's what needs to happen.
Yep, will win headers, hold the ball up and bully defenders, we need more of a presence up top than Richarlison and DCL can offer at the moment

Richarlison out to the left, drop Gray and lets see how we get on.

We need someone like him to hold the ball up on Sunday.

Rondon has to start as the lone striker and we get someone close to him when we play it long to him. This actually might be the time to see a bit more of Alli. Maybe not start him but have that in mind.

He's an average player at best, but, our poor recruitment means that, unfortunately, he is probably our only option at centre forward at the moment. This doesn't, however, mean he's a good player, he isn't, he's just one more example of how terrible we are as a club and as a team. Whoever is responsible for us having to rely on Rondon has a lot to answer for.

He was a good player in his prime. Nothing special but a useful top flight player in the right scenario. He was on a hiding to nothing earlier this season playing up front with nobody in blue within acres of him.

Get some bodies around him and he may still prove useful. He is incredibly slow these days but he is strong, holds the ball up well and can score a goal or two.

He was an average player in his prime, which was a few years ago, he really isn't a good player now, on a good day he is average, but, he is all we have and that is the real problem. Our recruitment is terrible and to have only Rondon as a back up to DCL as a target man is laughable, we truly deserve t be fighting relegation.

He’s a donkey, a player that I’d imagine would be playing for Burnley is our only fit striker.

The only reason he needed to come in yesterday was because we had nobody near Richarlison, a good 40 yard distance between midfield and him. Asking him to challenge Johnny Evans for long balls was never going to work.

if that’s the tactics moving forward then this cart horse, unfortunately, needs to play.

What an absolute sad state of affairs we find ourselves in

Looked a lot fitter and as others have said gave us a focal point - I don’t think we can play richy up top particularly the form gray is in so i’d be starting him going forward, at least until dcl is properly fit (which may not be this season)

Glad more and more people are seeing it.

Sure, not long ago I was saying he's probably the worst centre forward we've had in the Premier League era.

But, why I wanted him starting yesterday is because I think we're better with him upfront, than - remarkably, Brasil's number 9 - Richarlison.

For us, Richarlison is better wide when he can pickup pockets of space and carry the ball.

We don't have the team to supply Richarlison as a centre forward.

Rondon at least occupies a defender pretty well and in doing so, can create some space for Richarlison/Gray/Gordon - he's a presence - he offers a focal point/balance.
