We'd probably make him one of the highest paid managers in footy mate.

IF a team has money, then getting them after an absolute car crash of a season is a damn good way to be able to a. get a better deal and better backing for what you want too do, and b. to get a lot more leeway and patience off the fans.

We set a VERY low bar this season for any incoming manager, if he did okay with signing players, got a semblance of a system in and played some semi decent footy then most would be willing to take that for next season right now, perfect groundwork for a manager to implement a 2-3 season long plan in reality.

We were conceding 2+ goals a game, had the 2nd worst defence in the league. We were 2 points from the bottom 3 at the end of November until we played West Ham. We'd just conceded 9 goals in two games prior to it.

If we'd have lost the West Ham game, we would've fell into the bottom 3 rolling into December.

Anyone making out we weren't in free fall needs to give their heads a wobble. But then again, those people wanted someone like Marco Silva in.

2 wins in the last 12 games (1 FA cup game) could be percieved as in freefall.

I think he would need the war chest mate. I have watched Shakhtar a few times and they play some really nice one touch fast paced passing football. We just don't really have the sort of players to play that way in our squad at the moment. Apart from maybe Walcott and Coleman we don't have anyone who has that much pace, also they play with two deep lying playmakers, and we all know the quality of our midfield! Bernard who is one of their better players is actually on a free in the summer, but he will have a choice of many clubs, Fred is going to end up at City by the looks of things. The one thing about getting Fonseca is that he is part of the Jorge Mendes stable which if you look at some of the players he managed to bring into Wolves, there is no reason we wouldn't be able to do the same here. Knowing Everton though it will be Pardew on the sidelines at the start of next season.

Interesting aside about the Fonseca links, Silva from Milan who we've been linked with is another Mendez client, Mangala also is who just so happened to have his best season (the one that got City to spend 42m on him) the year Fonseca was managing him at Porto...

The PSV DoF we have been linked with is also supposedly vey well connected in the South American market, something i'm guessing would be appealing to Fonseca given the makeup of that Shakhtar team re/ Brazilian players etc.

So we were in freefall when we’d got 7 points from 5 games under Unsworth, conceding 10 goals in the process, but we’re absolutely not in freefall having got 6 points from our last 5, also conceding 10 goals. Ok...

You what ?!

Stoke are on 27 points and have home games against us, Burnley and Palace left, plus away games against West Ham and final day against Swansea who'll already be safe by then. I'm confident they'll lose the rest of their games so won't mention them here.
Currently 27 points, they'll beat us (and nobody can argue with this prediction as we've won 1 in 23 away games), Burnley will be stuck in no-man's land knowing they've already bagged 7th, and will likely smash Palace too, plus that Swansea game may be crucial and I wouldn't count out a last day miracle. I can see Stoke getting 37-39 points.

Palace are also on 27, but have an extra game left, albeit against United. They do have very winnable home games against Brighton, Leicester and West Brom, and away games where they play equally poor teams in Huddersfield, Bournemouth, Watford and Stoke.
I predict Palace will end on between 38-40 points. If they beat United tomorrow, I'd be extremely scared for us.

WBA, I think their chances of finishing about us are extremely low given we're 14 points ahead of them and they have 9 games left, of which they still need to face Liverpool, Spurs and United. They do have three of their next four games at home against average teams (Leicester, Burnley, Swansea) so if they are somehow able to pull out three wins then I may start to get worried if we lose to Brighton next week, but hopefully we can win, although I wouldn't count on it. I think WBA finish on about 29-31 points.

Southampton, 28 points at present and have amongst others, have tough away fixtures against Arsenal, Leicester, us, Swansea and Newcastle left to play, plus City and Chelsea at home and a six-pointer against WHU away. They have the toughest run in I feel, and will likely end on between 36-38 points.

Newcastle are on 29 at the moment and have a favourable run-in. Their toughest fixtures left to play at Spurs, Leicester and arguably us away, plus Arsenal and Chelsea at home. They do, however, have very winnable games against Southampton, Huddersfield, West Brom and Watford left to play. Given their fixture I can see them finishing on 40-42 points.

That's the bottom five, meaning we'd need to get another 6 points to finish above all of them.

Huddersfield, Swansea, West Ham and Brighton are all on 30, 30, 30 and 31 points respectively already, so you can guarantee they'll all end up very close or slightly over 40 points.

I think we can forget getting more than 1-2 points from our remaining away games (Stoke, Swansea, Huddersfield, West Ham) as we have a grand total of 10 points gained from away games since the start of March 2017. Home games, can we beat two of Brighton, Newcastle and Southampton? These are all now six-pointers and a loss against either could send us down if they pick up points elsewhere. I am extremely scared for our chances of staying up this season.

Pretty sure that the bottom 5 teams aren't all suddenly gonna see a noticeable increase in their points per game mate like you think they will do.

Love the way you can say Stoke will smash palace and in the next paragraph mention palace having a winnable game against a poor stoke though,

Also love the newcastle favourable run in - which includes in their last 9 games, matches against Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs and Leicester.

By my reckoning if you count the games you reckon theyll lose by playing bigger teams etc, you have a fair few of those teams both getting 3 points when they play each other, else would love to see you do a breakdown of where all their points are coming from - especially Newcastle, who i guess you have a soft spot for old Rafael :)

Allardyce had nothing to do with the West Ham game. He wasn't even announced till the day after it and had barely spoken to anyone at the club and only watched the game from directors box. You say we were 2 points above the relegation zone before playing West Ham so that makes it maybe 5 points ahead after that result. We are only 7 points ahead of it now so forgive me for not getting too excited about it. BTW, we have recently conceded 9 goals again via Spurs and Arsenal as i recall.

The comparison quoted below makes interesting reading.

Good point, but I guess both sides are capable of winning it because they're two awful sides.

Also less of the RS suggestion, just check my post history if you've got any suspicious, thanks.

Oh so the turgid football and the fact we concede the most shots, crosses and have the fewest shots and chances created is nothing to do with the manager earning £6m pa

Boss logic

No mate.

Look at the bigger picture...or do you need it explaining to you?
