No idea who this chap is, or why he's in the news but he clearly craves attention .... and has received it by choosing to wear some beetle costume.

More kudos to whoever had the skill to make it than the anonymous blob that put it on in my view.
 
I know people who have worked with him on TV several years back who say he’s an utterly dreadful narcissist who only cares about himself and who was a massive attention whore long before all the non binary/pronouns stuff.

That non-binary stuff just encourages self-obsessed teenagers to indulge themselves. Most of them grow out of it but "they" drive parents mad.

Isn't it just a fairly obvious satire on the unrealistic body images portrayed in the media?

Or am I giving them too much credit?

I think you might be. He's simply copying something David Bowie did decades ago - maybe hoping people forget so credit his imagination instead.
