The problem with Eto'o is that he doesn't have the legs anymore. He would much rather come deeper and collect the ball, than chasing after a pass. That's why he's been playing in behind the striker.
Honestly though, if we had a good replacement lined up, I wouldn't begrudge him leaving. Think when he plays it forces us to play Barkley and Naismith out of position, giving us no width at all.
