Removing shelters is a retrograde step. This station caters for all sorts of people outside of matchdays.
Sticking a fence down the middle also adds to the danger and creates inflexibility.
The station really needs 2 extra platforms (1 minimum) to separate north/south traffic.

I agree completely... However we need a practical short term fix that'll work for the thousands that will use the station in the mean time.

The narrow platforms can be mitigated by close control of who is leaving the queue... Ie they know what the next train is and therefore they release that many people at a time.

My idea is very far from perfect but I think it's a sensible fudge until the council/network rail get their act together
